Unit 32 Assignment 3 Task 3 Proposal

Introduction
First off I am going to be outlining the Ideas in which I have generated based on what you
have informed me of during the previous meetings in which we have had and what I had
generated based on the Ideas you as the client had in mind.
I have managed to generate 2 different Ideas for potential Ident use for the channel of The
Grid and will elaborate on both Ideas below; following the Ideas, I will be elaborating on the
production budget along with the time scale for this project.
Idea 1 Lego
With this idea I firstly imaged it as a hook on the old 1982 Tron film with the glowing neon
lines along with the blacked out background, but only taking these two elements from the
film and applying them in the form of the glowing neon lines and aligning them in to a grid
formation and applying the back background.
From here the glowing neon grid would stay as it is but I would apply Lego characters in
randomly positioned squares upon the grid, capture an image then alter the position of the
Lego characters and capture another image, I would repeat this process up to 20 + times so
that the arrangement of the Lego character on the neon grid are completely different in
every single shot, from the start of the Ident right to the last second.
With the logo for the Lego Ident idea, it would more or less be a block colour of a dark
purple and have two entrance forms, either fade in (which I personally find more
preferable) or a jagged entrance where it is more or less centred at the top of the screen but
will make physical alterations to properly centre itself, furthermore the logo would appear
with transmission clarity issues with the logo coming on screen and start to intermittently
buzz or fade in and out.
With the audio for this Ident idea, I am thinking of a genre that upholds funk and electronic
at the same time to overall go with the movement of the Lego characters on the neon grid
along with the style of the Ident, the song I feel that will go with this Ident Idea is Get Lucky
by Daft Punk but only using the intro of the song that is only instrumental.
At the start and finish of the advert, the audio will introduce itself with 1.5 seconds of
distortion, like the song is being tuned in via a radio.

Idea 2 80s Dance Club
With this idea I felt that there is very little difference compared to my Idea 1 as there is only
1 significant difference between this Idea and the first.
The difference is instead of having Lego characters randomly relocating their position upon
the neon grid, the Lego characters would be removed and replace with each of the squares
upon the grid lighting up randomly, just like an 80s dance floor in a club.
The overall colour scheme for this Ident Idea is a fairly dark purple, maybe a mace windu
lightsaber neon purple, maybe a little darker, along with a jet black to allow the neon purple
to stand out to its fullest.
With the title (name of the TV channel), it would appear in either of the two forms
previously stated about in the first Idea along with the transmission clarity issues as if the TV
channel was being manually tuned in.
The audio for the second Idea I also feel would remain the same with Get Lucky by Daft
Punk as this song I feel links in with the style of the Ident along with the randomly
alternating lit squares upon the neon grid.
Another reason for this is that I feel the song itself gives off a very 80s vibe and would go
very well with the on screen visuals of the neon grid, the oncoming channel name along
with the transmission issue effects.
Overall I feel that both Ideas are both very similar just with 1 different that being the swap
of Lego characters for the squares upon the neon grip to light up like an 80s dance floor.
Although both Ideas only have one alternation between them, I still feel that this accounts
for more than it visually seems in the sense that even though there is very little different
between both Ideas it still make a big impact on the overall message that is being given to
the target audience along with the opinion of the target audience.

Production budget
With this project specifically I feel that it will cost a little more that it should, but this is
mainly down to how I feel that best form of production for this project is via the use of CGI
as with CGI we can ensure that the footage is as smooth and clear as it can be which overall
makes it more visually enjoyable for the audience members.
I also feel that this form of production links directly to the target audience members as CGI
is more modern form of footage capture whereas the use of a camera is more analogue
styled, furthermore the target audience members are within an age range in which they are
technologically competent so CGI is a form of footage they will hopefully understand to a
basic extent.
The cheaper option for this project would be to go very lightly on the CGI production and
focus more around the physical fabrication of props for use within this Ident, for example
we I could have one dance floor manufactured with purple neon lights which would be
usable within both the Ideas I have generated.
But if this was to become the chosen option, the area in which I would bring in the CGI
would be with the TV channel name which would appear on screen as I could quite easy
have the physically fabricated dance floor made too visually look as if it was CGI just by
turning the lights down on the set for the production.
Overall I feel that the production budget for the CGI forms of either Ideas will be in the
ranges of 6000-15000 which will overall will be more visually pleasing and maybe
realisable by members of the target audience.
With the hybrid of both CGI and physical fabrication for the dance floor, I feel that its
production budget would go from around 4000 up to 10000 but as the budget I have
been given only covers the man hours applied to the production of this project I find it will
in the long run be cheaper to use CGI footage for the Ident production.

Time scale
The time scale needed for this project starting from the production stage, I feel will be a
maximum of 1 month for a complete Ident production, a maximum of 3 extra days may be
needed to make any last minute checks to make sure that everything is running smoothly
and nothing could potentially cause any problems such as file corruption or something that
could cause motion problems, so for this I will be testing the complete Ident in range of
different formats and aspect ratios to make sure that the Ident renders properly which it
comes to the Ident being viewed.
Before I start on the digital Ident production, I am going to be conducting some prior
experimentation with the whole 80s dance floor grid to see if the Idea I have planned out
works, if at all well and can keep up with the beat of the music and to see whether it is
overall effective enough to be used within the Ident or not.
For this I will be experimenting with both the lego and square lit dance floor Ideas to see
which one I feel overall has a better impact upon the final product.
Overall a month and 1 week is the maximum amount of time needed to produce a fully
working Ident to a professional standard.
