Expert InstaIIations
Chances are Willis Carrier had no idea just how much he would
impact the world when he developed the nrst air conditioning
system in I902. While he may not have foreseen the effects of his
work, few innovations have changed the landscape of modern life
as dramatically as Carrier's climate control technology.
1oday, the air conditioner has been cited as one of the landmark
inventions of the 20th century. Just as Willis Carrier's brainchild
addressed some of the most pressing needs of his day, modern-
day Carrier remains at the forefront of innovation. Bringing
customers the next generation in climate control for ofnce,
education, retail and more. Where we work, how we live. Carrier
products are the enabling technology behind today's lifestyle and
tomorrow's possibilities, every day, every hour, everywhere we go.

including a swimming pool. 1he HvAC equipment was inefncient,
loud and experienced numerous failures. Carrier's expert solution
substantially improved energy savings while being easy to maintain,
environmentally sound and quiet.

Overview - Pratt & Whitney's jet engine manufacturing facility,
built in I955, consists of high-bay steel manufacturing buildings. An
integrated HvAC system was needed to replace older equipment
that would help the company meet its aggressive cost-reduction
goals and environmental
initiatives. 1he new chiller

Systems Design (E20-II)
Carrier has developed a number of software programs specincally for HvAC designers to
help them create reliable, cost-efncient systems. 1hese programs are crafted to increase
productivity and accuracy and improve analysis capabilities and job documentation. HvAC
professionals will appreciate the power and productivity benents of Carrier's Expanded
Hourly Analysis Program (HAP), featuring load estimating and energy analysis in one
easy-to-use package. Other programs are available to assist in heating and cooling load
estimating, annual building operation cost estimating, refrigerant piping system design
and economic life-cycle analysis.
Product SeIection (E-CA1)
A series of software programs is also available to HvAC designers to assist in the selection, specincation and application
of specinc Carrier models of commercial HvAC equipment. Each class of equipment (e.g., rooftop cooling/heating units)
has its own program that can be downloaded separately. A selection procedure provides outputs with all pertinent
engineering information about the selected unit - as applied. Some of the programs, such as Carrier's AHUBuilder
software, intuitively build the system for you, graphically depicting the unit as options are added, and calculating system
performance. Contact your Carrier dealer or representative for more information on any of the systems-design or product-
selection support tools discussed here, or visit www.commercial.carrier.com.

Our environmental leadership has earned awards
from the governments of many countries and
numerous U.S. states and municipalities. ln 2003,
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency named
Carrier a Climate Leader for the reduction of energy
intensity in our manufacturing operations. Since
I997, Carrier has doubled the size of its business
while holding energy use fat. Carrier is the only air
conditioning systems manufacturer to be named an
EPA Climate Leader.
We serve our markets with comprehensive end-
to-end system solutions that deliver peace of mind
and a higher quality of life. Our pioneering work
in electronics and computer software has led to
intelligent systems that integrate and manage a
building's HvAC system more easily, efnciently
and reliably than ever before.

Corporate 1hermostat
Carrier's 7-day Commercial Programmable
1hermostat is a wall-mounted, low-voltage
thermostat that maintains room temperature
by controlling the operation of an HvAC
(heating, cooling and ventilation) system.
Separate heating and cooling set points
and auto-changeover capability allow
occupied and unoccupied programming
for energy savings.
1he thermostat allows up to four time/
temperature settings to be programmed
in 24-hour intervals. 1he thermostat stores
schedules for seven independent days and
batteries are not required. ln the event of
power interruption, the internal memory stores
comfort schedules for an unlimited time. 1he
clock will continue to run for 72 hours.
