About the College
Agricultural College, Bapatla is the second oldest College in South India
after TNAU, Coimbatore. The Department of Genetics and Plant
Breeding was established in the year 1968. It has its own foot prints in
the state by releasing the most popular rice variety of the world, BPT
5204, for its unique grain quality. The Department organizes various
academic activities in order to develop Research Culture among the
students. It has also been instrumental in providing platform for
discussion and debates on current and relevant scientific topics.
About the Seminar
The discovery of new molecular markers has revolutionized crop
improvement programmes, offering a variety of markers suitable for
developing novel and improved varietal characters in a variety of
species. Most of the crop improvement programmes have benefited
from the application of these techniques i.e., germplasm
characterization, DNAF, population investigation and phylogenetic
analyses along with the detection of loci controlling important
agronomic traits using association analysis.
Recent advances in the availability of complete genome sequences of
several crop species, has facilitated the development, making their use
more economical and efficient. The high throughput genotyping and
sequencing has allowed profound investigations of the genomes with
the exciting possibility of constituting novel ideotypes.
In order to have the complete knowledge and the progress achieved by
exploiting molecular markers in crop improvement and the challenges
for the future, the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding,
Agricultural College, Bapatla is organizing One Day National Seminar
on Molecular Markers in Crop Improvement on 20
th
March 2013
at Agricultural College, Bapatla, Guntur District.
National Seminar on Molecular Markers and Crop Improvement will
provide a platform for the scientists and students to communicate and
know the recent advances in the Molecular Marker Technology and an
opportunity to establish the multilateral collaborations.
Approximately 200 participants are expected to attend this seminar.
There are 7 invited lectures and 7 young scientists presentations along
with oral presentations from the submitted abstracts.
Call for Papers
The participants are requested to submit an abstract (not more than 500
words) along with the Application to the Organizing Secretary,
Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Agricultural College, Bapatla,

The accepted abstracts will be intimated before 14
th
March 2013.
Awards
Five best abstracts will be selected for Oral presentations. Posters of
