VISION &
MISSION

Our Vision
TRANSCO will be the acknowledged regional leader in the transmission of potable water and electricity and
provision of related services.

Our Mission
TRANSCO will ensure the availability of an essential public service while transmitting potable water and
electricity reliably, securely and safely whilst achieving the optimum balance of performance, risk, cost and
sustainable development.

TRANSCO
IN A NUTSHELL

The Creation of the New Organization

In 1998 Law (2) was passed by the Government of Abu-Dhabi concerning the regulation of the
water and electricity sector. On January 1st 1999, Abu-Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority
(ADWEA) was set up as an entity wholly owned by the Government and responsible for making
sure that its group of companies were set up and running; prior to that the Water and Electricity
Department (WED) was the responsible body. ADWEA are responsible for being the focal point
between the Government and the group companies, with TRANSCO being the transmission &
despatch arm of the sector and the distribution elements then being controlled by Abu Dhabi
Distribution Company (ADDC) and Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC).

What we do
TRANSCOs core business is the planning, construction, and operation of the water and electricity transmission & despatch
network within Abu Dhabi and where required, the UAE. In addition to meeting the current demand for water and electricity
transmission, TRANSCO must ensure the availability of appropriate infrastructure necessary to service future demand.
TRANSCO is responsible for reliably, securely and safely transmitting water and electricity from the water and electricity
producers (IWPPs) to the distribution networks operated by ADDC and AADC, as well as being involved in the planning and
development of an interlinked transmission grid with the other Gulf States and contributes to the running of the Emirates
National Grid.

How we do it
To execute TRANSCOs primary responsibility of servicing current demand, we maintain and operate a network of
transmission assets, including operation of a Load Despatch Centre.
TRANSCO is also servicing future demand by translating forecasts produced by ADWEC (a separate operating company
within the ADWEA group responsible for developing water and electricity demand forecasts), into network development
plans and then manage the set of development projects required to meet the plan requirements.
TRANSCO has also expanded the scope of its business to include assisting in the planning, development and operation of
water and electricity transmission assets in some of the northern Emirates.

OUR
BUSINESS

TRANSCO operates power & water transmission network across most of the UAE, delivering
services to distribution and production customers. The network is developed and operated
to support the needs of all our customers. TRANSCO in conjunction with other utilities has
developed a network that meets demand forecasts, enabling the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and
other Emirates to grow economically, in keeping with the Governments vision.

Regulated activities
TRANSCO is responsible for transmitting power from generation plants through a complex network of interconnected
substations, cables and overhead lines. Drinking water is primarily produced through production plants that require the
water to be evacuated through an interconnected network of pipes and pumping stations to our customers.
TRANSCO is regulated in terms of transmission use, for system charge and network performance. The Regulation and
Supervision Bureau (RSB) reviews the network and expenditure performances annually whilst the revenue is reviewed on
a four yearly cycle.

Non-regulated activities
TRANSCOs non-regulated activities are based on the core utility skills of our regulated business. Non-regulated activities
include the provision of dedicated electricity and water transmission networks to Emirates located outside the Emirate of
Abu Dhabi. These services have experienced considerable growth as the support to neighbouring Emirates has increased
whilst remaining focused on improving network performance and customer service.

OUR
STRATEGY

The ever increasing demand for power & water means that TRANSCO needs to match this
growth, as well as be more organised and efficient in conducting its business. Keeping in mind
the vision and strategic objectives of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, TRANSCO has revised
and refined its business plan to better facilitate business growth and development.

KEY
ACHIEVEMENTS
2011 PAS55

TRANSCO has been certified by the Institute of Asset Management (IAM), accredited
assessors, to be operating / practicing good Asset Management. We are the first utility
company in the Middle East to have achieved this recognition.

2010 GCC Interconnection Project

The GCC Interconnection project was established to provide power interconnection

between all GCC countries.

2009 ITOMS

ITOMS (International Transmission Operation and Maintenance Study) is a benchmarking exercise designed to
identify the best practices and best performers in the field of power transmission and to explore innovative and
leading-edge practices from within and beyond the utility industry. TRANSCO received the results of this
benchmarking study and were selected from 27 global transmission companies as Best Practice Performers in
six of the 10 operations and maintenance benchmarking disciplines.

2008 Connecting FEWA to ENG.

ADWEA and FEWA (Federal Electricity and Water Authority) signed a master agreement for committed supplies
to Northern Emirates. As per the agreement, bulk power capacity up to 2,500MW will be made available to FEWA by
the year 2015. In order for this to happen, TRANSCO has facilitated the integration of the FEWA network and the
ENG (Emirates National Grid) Network.

2007 Completing the first part of 400KV backbone loop.

TRANSCO completed 400kV loop/ring to provide secure power supply to the Abu Dhabi Island. The Abu Dhabi
Island is fed by two (2) 400kV OHL circuits from Taweela and two (2) 400kV OHL circuits from Sas Al Nakheel.
