To revise the
information about
the infinitive and
the gerund

1.Ss read the article quickly, ignoring the gaps
in order to answer the gist question
2.Ss work individually to put the verbs in
either the gerund or the infinitive and then
compare answers. T goes through the answers
with the whole class, and then they build up
two lists, verbs followed by gerund and verbs
followed by infinitive, on the board. T asks
the Ss to suggest other verbs they know which
could be added to the list.
3.Ss look through the text to find the verb
allow, which requires an object before the
infinitive. T checks that the Ss understand that
the object in this case is compulsory.
Then ask them to find another verb in the text
where a direct object before the infinitive is

To practice the
freshly acquired
information

1.Ss work in pairs to consider each pair of
sentences and answer the check questions. T
checks the differences with the whole class.
2. Ss read the two sentences and answer the
check question. T asks the Ss to suggest some
other sense verbs which could be followed by
these structures.
3.T gives the Ss some handouts and explains
the difference between gerund and infinitive
