1. Introduction

Entrepreneurship class was contented with talk, seminar, course and a two-day entrepreneurship
retreat which is good to gain more knowledge on entrepreneur and other new things to learn. The
main objective of this reflective journal is to describe and reflect on my key learning points in the
entrepreneurship course in personal and skills development activities that I have attended two event
related to Entrepreneurship programme are Talk by Richworks Group, a-two day retreat which are
Four Personality Types, Public Speaking Skills, Video on Steve Jobs Speech, Entrepreneur-
Intrapreneur and talk on Islamic Entrepreneurs Characters.
The first one is talk on how to be successful entrepreneur by Encik Azizan Osman. He
moreover, elaborates on evaluation of our strengths and weaknesses in different perspectives. Whilst I
evaluated myself and see my weakness, he gives chance to a success person to give their support and
personal stories on how they become success. It is not just for new things to learn, but it is also a
motivation to be influence by our spirituality.
The next program is a-two-day retreat at Riyadh Restu; I would say it is magnificent and virtuous for
us. With the peaceful place to stay, we then, attended a few talks such as Knowing your Four Type of
Personality, Public Speaking Basic Skills, Video on Steve Jobs Speech, Entrepreneur-Intrapreneur
and talk on Islamic Entrepreneurs Characters; it leads us to improve and develop ourselves by adding
values on personality, entrepreneurial, public speaking dos and donts and many more. The retreat
interlude physical fitness by expertise thus we dont training for mental only but also on physical
facts.
As a result of this reflective journey, unlike before, I admit that I have to mend myself to a
shining personality and raise the value of individuality. Everyone want to pursue happiness and
success in their life; thus it has to change the basic of ourselves to change Effective leadership will
help you make the most of the opportunities, creating sustainable growth for the future.

2. Reflections on key learning points

2.1 MESTI

MESTI Formulae is a formula for a start-up entrepreneur to achieve their success. It is describe as
Mentor, Emotion and Knowledge, System, Tindakan (Action) and Impian (Vision). It is also act as a
guideline for an entrepreneur to start-up their business successfully. Entrepreneurship is a challenging
career as they are responsible everything on their own at the beginning. As the business growing, the
challenges getting bigger and more opportunities demand.
Crucially, they need to ensure that they don't create additional problems for the future. The formula
given by Dr. Azizan Osman is important as it covers the full concept in business. It helps an
entrepreneur to improve their personal developmental relationship with a better knowledge and more
experience person for better plan in future. Then, it encourages them to make a better decision with
right use of knowledge and emotions. With that, one may have a clear mind to plan a good system and
strategy in their business operation. Furthermore, a plan should be give an action compatible with the
situation experienced by an entrepreneur. The action will be more enthusiastic and motivated with a
clear objective and vision of a business nature.
2.2 Your Personality Type

Different people behave differently. The Greek physician has identified the four types of
personality which are Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic, and Phlegmatic. These personalities are the
products of both genetics and environment factors. Knowing someone personalitys traits can help
you to understand and predict others behaviour given situation.
The speaker said that one cannot have only a personality type; it should be a combination of two or
more. After I did a few reading on personality types materials, I figured out that I am in the
phlegmatic and sanguine type. Phlegmatic is a personality with calm, cool, rational, easy going and
well-balanced temperament, while Sanguine is a personality with warm, lively and cheerful
temperament.
My future career options will be professional manager or business owner. The qualities in my
personality are consistency and competent. High level of consistency and competence behaviour will
lead to a better performance. Consistency in daily routine and good habit is virtuous to complete the
task in the right time. In the meantime, competence leads me to do any task in better performance. In
future, this quality is crucial as professional manager because the work performance should be
excellent in time.

Besides, I am more an observant and mediate problems. If there is a conflict in a workplace, an
observant would rather sit and think a solution than involved and makes an argument or fight getting
bigger. It is characterize as problem solving as it is crucial in future. As a manager for example, if
there is any circumstances in the future, one should not appoint the fault to others or keep arguing
conversely, I should organize a proper meeting and find solution for the matter of problems.
Other than that, I am creative to give ideas out of the box. Every nature of work need creativity
because it is the ability to "think outside of the box" that will lead the future and make special things
happen. Creativity is a work demand, for example, business owner need creativity in their product and
marketing plan to increase the sales revenue and share capital. Thus, in any field of work would need
creativity to be shine and produce an efficient and affordable goods and services.
2.3 Public Speaking Skill

The three basic skills in presentation that I need to sparkle are the understanding context of
presentation, body language and emotional tone level. Firstly, the material of presentation and the
language used must be easy to understand by the audience. In order to improve my proficiency,
material such as slideshow should not be too exaggerated and disorderly in sequence. Besides, the
language used must be in understandable terms depending on the types of audiences.
Next, basic skill that I should improve is body language. Research suggests that our ability to
communicate effectively to our audience and leave a lasting impression is more directly tied to our
voice and body language. After the talk by Mr. Senad, I figured out that it is important to have the
interaction between the audience and the presenter. The interaction key is voice out and body
language. It is my huge part of deficiency. However the speaker gives us tips to improve body
language by several ways which are eye contact to the audience, hand gesture to emphasize several
terms, vocal variety to avoid the boring situation and pauses. These are useful tips given by the
speaker and could be practise in a presentation.
Lastly, the emotional tone level plays a crucial role in a presentation. The speaker highlight that it
is important to have the interaction between the audiences to make the message is delivered.
Storytelling, real life examples, and personal stories are the easiest and most effective way to make
our presentation emotional. Besides, the speaker also taught us on tips to use simple humor in the
middle of presentation. It is great to learn the skill in presentation because you can learn to improve
better in future as for career.

2.4 Steve Jobs Speech at Stanford

In the speech of Steve Jobs, I recognized three qualities that are good for my future career to be
successful. There are three qualities consist of work hard on your weaknesses to build character, find
your passion and mortality.
In future, employer evaluates you by your character on the first impression. Thus, the first quality is
about work hard on your weakness to build character. From his speech,
I didnt see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have
ever happened to me. Steve Jobs
It is essential to evaluate yourself by learn from mistakes, build a positive character and
strengthen the good personality in me. In future career, I should learn to overcome weaknesses and
humility, over broad considerations, which the greatest leaders are made from.
The next quality is to find your passion in any kind of field. If I cant figure out what I want in the
future, I should be looking until I get what I want. It is because the passion influences the intention
and work performance. Imagine I would get position that I dont want, it makes me do the work with
no sincerity.
Lastly, Steve Jobs mentioned in his speech on mortality. In the future, I might be facing many
challenges such as fear, embarrassment and failure. However, by remembering the death is the best
way to learn how on encounter all expectation and possibilities. Time fly away, if I was unable to
encounter challenges now, there will be no any other chances. These qualities are a good guideline for
me in the future career to be successful person.
2.5 Islamic Entrepreneurship

In the Islamic Entrepreneurship Retreat, there are numerous lessons that I got from the retreat.
However, three lessons that I acquire are seclusion, crystal clear vision and shura. The history taught
us by the story of Anbiya in the past; Seclusion and contemplation are the best way to optimize
creativity and productivity. A successful person such as Steve Job did seclusion by went to India for 7
years. Besides, the other lesson is to have a clear vision. A crystal clear vision will lead us to get what
we want in the future firmly without any doubt. The speaker was told the story of Marwan Al-
Hammar, the donkey driver who had the lowest job at that time. Thus, we also encourage having a
clear vision in future.

Furthermore, if there is any circumstances happen in future, it is encourage to have a shura
because shura gives us a perfect answer. The speaker said, Allah loves if any of you has done a deed
to perfect it. Islam is comprehensive and

3.1 What made you think differently as a result of taking this subject
(entrepreneurship)?

Concisely, after the seminar by Richworks Group of Companies and a retreat camp at Riyadh
Restu, entrepreneurship is not focusing on business venture only but also developing knowledge,
skills, and application of innovative idea to contribute in a new or successful business or enhancement
the existing firm to grow and expand.
After spending a few weeks in learning in this course; entrepreneurship, I found out it is different
compared to other management subjects such as strategic management, organizational behaviour, and
human resource management. These subjects are focusing on the management of an organization
meanwhile entrepreneurship is about developing business ideas and enhancing one to have better skill
and knowledge for start-up business or promoting ourselves to the employers.
Entrepreneurship is a crucial subject that helps to create employment and contribute towards
research and development systems. It brings advantages to Malaysia as it causes economic growth;
the higher job opportunities create for people, an increase wealth to the people by entrepreneurial. It is
because entrepreneurs tend to give innovative ideas with low cost and best quality thus people will
save more money while consuming the product. They give strengthen the economy of Malaysia, thus
Malaysian are encourage to start their business.
Besides, entrepreneurship provides motivation to small businesses; Graduates exposed to
entrepreneurship frequently express that they have more opportunity to exercise creative freedoms,
higher self-esteem, and an overall greater sense of control over their own lives. As a result, many
experienced business people political leaders, economists, and educators believe that nurturing a
strong entrepreneurial culture will maximize individual and collective economic and social success on
a local, national, and global scale.

3.2 What are the key areas about yourself that you feel you need to
develop to be a successful entrepreneur and why.

The most important things that I need to develop are enhancing the skills in presentation. Mr.
Senad explained why it is important to have a good presentation skill; firstly, it would bring us to be
successful in future. A good presentation is inadequate; it must be effective with a clear message. In
selection candidates for vacancy or promotions, presentation as a graduate students are important.
Success rides on their presentation outshining the competition. Secondly is about improving
leadership in organization demands effective presentation skills. Every cause needs a leader. Every
leader needs to be able to stand up and deliver a clear and inspiring message. The team and followers
will often judge the leader and the cause on the presentation skills of that spokesperson.
Lastly, most importantly of all, nothing builds a persons overall self-confidence as much as
acquiring the skills necessary to make an effective presentation. An effective presenter will increase
self-confidence into every aspect of your life, thus we will become a more successful and effective
person in everything we dream to do.
Other than presentation skill, I need to develop my entrepreneurial skill. It is crucial as it also
develop personal characteristics, cultivate good interpersonal skills, and improve critical and creative
thinking skills. The harder ones work to build their skills, the more successful their likely to be.
4. Conclusion

In a nutshell, an improvement would be ease to implement, however it is hard to maintain. A
motivational talk and a retreat as what I have been experienced were excellent and advantage us as a
graduating student to face new challenge in the future.
Entrepreneurship is an employment strategy that can lead to economic self-sufficiency for
graduates. Self-employment provides people and their families with the potential to create and
manage businesses in which they function as the employer or boss, rather than merely being an
employee. Oftentimes, fresh graduates are eligible and receive supplemental supports (technical and
financial) which can serve as a safety net that may decrease the risk involved with pursuing self-
employment opportunities.
Moreover, if graduates want to be employed, ones should improve their soft skills with hard
skills. According to experts, soft skills are sometimes known in work-speak as employability skills are
becoming increasingly important to graduate recruiters selecting through the CVs of a growing pool

of similar looking applicants. Soft skills include communication ability, teamwork, time management,
problem solving and attitude to work while hard skills refer to things such as academic qualifications.
Thus, the motivational talk and a-two-day retreat was fun yet valuable and productive for all
students. Students do not only get more knowledge, but the ukhuwah between students are getting
stronger as they know each other more.
