Selection of deep groove ball bearings Selection of deep groove ball bearings
Deep groove ball bearings are the most
frequently used rolling bearings. They have q y g g y
proven their worth, for instance in electric
motors transmissions household appliances motors, transmissions, household appliances,
automobile engines, rolling stands, motor
saws boring and drilling machines conveyor saws, boring and drilling machines, conveyor
plants, ventilators, compressors, inline skates
...etc.
Slides 4: Bearings 7
Equivalent load Equivalent load
Deep groove ball bearings also resist thrust,
and a unit of thrust does different damage per g p
revolution than a unit of radial load, so we
must find the equivalent pure radial load that must find the equivalent pure radial load that
does the same damage as the existing radial
and thrust loads and thrust loads.

Example Example
Select a deep groove ball bearing having a rating
life of 1200 hr to be fitted on a shaft which has a
minimum diameter of 30 mm. The bearing will
carry a radial load of 210 N along with an axial carry a radial load of 210 N along with an axial
load of 214 N. The shaft is rotating at 5.83 RPS.

NNote:
If the calculated value of C (1.316 kN) in the ( )
previous problem were greater than the value
given in catalog (C =3 45 kN) another bearing given in catalog (C =3.45 kN), another bearing
should be selected.
