Supervisor Ron Roberts Wins Re-Election
Facing no opposition on the ballot, Supervisor Ron Roberts has been reelected as the
Fourth District representative to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. First
elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1994, this will be Roberts sixth and final term as a
result of voter-approved term limits.
"I am humbled to be in this position and want to thank my family, friends, and most
importantly the voters of the Fourth District. When we began this journey in 1995, it
was to restore stability to a county in financial peril. Working in together with four other
new supervisors, we were able to accomplish a turnaround that continues to pay
dividends today.
"But this is not the time to talk about past accomplishments, but rather to look forward
to the future, to what we can do in the next four years.
"For starters, we can build upon the overwhelming success of the new waterfront park
with the addition of some signature art for children of all ages to enjoy, and the
completion of our Little Italy parking structure.
"Starting construction on the Mid-Coast Trolley extension, which will link our existing
system to UC San Diego, several major hospitals and other key destinations, is a top
priority.
"While collectively we have made great strides improving San Diegos foster care
system, I dont want to take my eye off that ball. We need to not just get these
children through their tumultuous teens, but also prepare them to be productive
members of the world that awaits. For that reason I will remain closely involved with the
San Pasqual Academy and other programs that benefit foster youth.
"The Pro Kids Golf Academy remains near and dear to my heart, bringing together at-risk
youth and young golfers at a City Heights course where it is a members' dedication to
schoolwork and community that earns them time on the course and the equipment
necessary to play.
"I will continue my work with seniors, supporting programs that help ensure housing,
nutrition and their safety.
"Air quality also will remain a priority. While San Diego County has the cleanest air in
nearly 60 years of measuring, we need to get better, and we will, thanks to the work of
the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District and the California Air Resources
Board where I represent our region.
"Much of the work we have done on air pollution is proving invaluable as we address
climate change, which has moved from being a subject of debate to a palette of steps
we can take now, and in the immediate and near future, to mitigate and lessen its
impacts.
"Of course public safety will remain the top priority. In partnership with the District
Attorney, Sheriff and county Chief Probation Officer, I will continue to closely monitor
the outcome of Assembly Bill 109 in which California handed to counties the
supervisorial, and in some cases incarceration, responsibilities for a large new class of
prisoners. Public safety includes boosting our regional preparedness for wildfires by
building on our successes with the Next Generation Incident Command System and
delivering firefighters in the field and their incident commanders more tools and
technology that enables them to do an even better job.
"Collectively, our efforts must serve to improve San Diego as a place to work, live and
play, both for this generation and the ones that will follow. I want to thank everyone
again for the opportunity to keep working with you as a member of the Board of
Supervisors to make that happen."
Prior to his election to the Board of Supervisors in 1994, Roberts served two terms on
the San Diego City Council and the citys Planning Commission, and served as a managing
partner for one of the region's largest and most successful architectural firms for many
years. He and his wife raised three successful daughters who have added three
grandchildren to the family.
