Suggested Itineraries

Trekking in Nepal involves many days of walking and unless you have a month or more at
your disposal, youll probably manage only one trek during your visit. In any event. youll
want to spend a few days in Kathmandu and possibly visit Pokhara and a jungle lodge in
Chitwan while you are in Nepal.

One week
You could do a short walk on the Kathmandu valley rim, head to Pokhara and do some day
hikes, or a three- or four-day trek to Ghorapani or Ghandruk.

Two weeks
With two weeks you can trek to Annapurna base camp, Langtang valley, or trek into
the Everest region for views of Mt. Everest. If youre prepared to spend an additional US$
700 for a special permit, you could fly to Jomsom and trek into the remote northern
kingdom of Mustang.

Three weeks
Three weeks will allow you the opportunity for an extended treks such as theEverest Base
Camp or a trek around the Annapurna Circuit, and still spend a few days in Kathmandu.
Another great itinerary is our Best of Nepal tour that includes a short trek, river rafting,
jungle safari, Mt. Everest View flight, and visits to several of the most interesting cultural
sites in Nepal.

One month
With a month, you have enough time to trek all the way to the base camp of Kanchenjunga
or Makalu. You could also experience the tremendous variety in Nepal by trekking to Everest
or Langtang, and then do a second trek in the Annapurna region.

When to trek

Treks can last from two days to a month or more, and the first consideration will be to
choose a trek that fits into your available time and physical condition. Youll also need to
strike a balance between trekking in the best weather for the area you wish to trek in and
avoiding the crowds the good weather attracts.

The traditional trekking season is October to May, although some treks in high areas will be
closed from mid December to the end of January.

During the trekking season the nights can be very cold in the mountains, but the bright sun
makes for pleasant daytime temperatures up to about 30 C, falling to 5 C, at night,
between 1000m and 3500m. At higher altitudes temperatures range from about 20 C down
to -10 C. Mornings are usually clear, then clouds canbuild up during the afternoon,
disappearing at night to reveal spectacular starry skies. During winter it is about 10 C
colder.

Because most of the precipitation in the Himalayas occurs during the summer monsoon
there is less snow on the mountains and many high trails during winter. Everest itself is
mostly a mass of black rock during the trekking season, becoming snow-covered only
during summer. There are always exceptions to this weather pattern, so be prepared for
extremes. Winter snowstorms in December and January may make an early-spring pass
crossing difficult and can often present an avalanche danger, especially on the approach to
the Annapurna Sanctuary.

The Middle Hills, especially around Pokhara, are dusty and hazy in April and May, but the
high country is usually clear. Trekking tapers off in the heat of May, except at high
elevations. A monsoon (summer) trek can be a great experience if you don't mind the rain,
leeches and slippery trails.

During spring, there can be sudden violent thunderstorms accompanied by high winds that
blow down trees and tents and cause streams to swell, though spring has usually fair
weather and beautiful flowers in bloom.

with a cup of spicy hot chai, wander the markets or tuck into some Nepalese cuisine. In the afternoon,

This is your opportunity to walk the full length of Nepal's Great Himalaya trail in one continuous trek. The
152 day trek commences in the far east in the Kanchenjunga region where the world's third highest peak
stretches skyward, and traverses the country to the high plateaus on the Tibetan borderlands in the far
west. Along this 1700km trail you'll encounter some of the wildest and most remote mountain
environments imaginable. You'll see all of Nepal's 8000 metre peaks, cross tens of passes ranging from
moderate to extreme and witness villages where the culture has remained intact for centuries. It's a trek
that should only be considered by those with extensive trekking and mountaineering experience, a high
level of fitness and a flexible approach as there will be the need to adapt to a range of situations
throughout the trek. We are sure the rigours of this full length GHT trek will be countered with immense
satisfaction and a truly unforgettable lifelong memory.

traveller reviews
This has been the most amazing experience anyone could ever think of doing. I have come so far, over
1700kms across this beautiful country, and over 29 high passes and been above 6000m. And not to
mention the kind hearted people of Nepal, always full of joy and rich in culture, that we have met along
this journey.
For me this has been a very personal adventure and the sense of achievement I cant tell you how
proud I am of myself. Ill take from this experience to propel me forward in life.
The staff have done a phenomenal job on this journey, so tirelessly hard working. Its not quite over yet,
still 2 days to go before we get back to Simikot, it makes me happy that its not over! Were now
retracing steps back to Simikot and our flight out, its a strange feeling after traversing the country
completely in the opposite direction, however this short return section offers a different perspective of the
stunning views and I feel its fitting to be facing the mountains we have travelled over.
I have been extremely happy with my gear that has served me well along this 152 day journey, its kept
me comfortable and given me confidence in all the extreme conditions we have encountered. Although
this journey is about to end I cant help thinking of the next thing, future goals, perhaps a trip to New
Zealand and a mountaineering course to learn the skills to climb the mountains we have passed beneath
over the last 5 months! When I return home I hope to inspire others to get out there, especially the youth,
to get out there and get amongst it, there is so much out there.
Personally, I would like to thank World Expeditions for making it possible, its a huge undertaking to
organize and execute such a logistically complicated journey. Its really opened my eyes a lot, and its
changed my life, when I return home the plan is to live more simply, at home we take so much for
granted, here, there is so little, people have so little, and they are happy, and they have touched my
heart.
