Club News
This week we bid farewell to two club personali-
tiesformer Accies captain and Committee
member Callum Campbell and Wanderers
striker Jessie Farmer. They leave us for cold-
er climes, off to Berlin to take in the music scene
and sample three hundred different kinds of
bratwurst. All the best lads...

Sitting third on the table behind two good sides,
the Cycles needed a big win to help put us
within striking distance of top spot. Melrose
Park was the venue for our Round 6 fixture
which is interesting place, if you kick the ball
over the fence you have to face an electric fence
and an army of angry Hamadryas Baboon's to
get it back.
The game started well, something which has
eluded us so far this season (maybe it was be-
cause this was the first game we did a semi-
proper warm up!). We dominated for the first
ten minute period before Boyce (striker) put us
one nil up after a nice pass from the in-form Ad-
am Atmore. The flood gates were about to open
for poor Wellington United. Tyler Jackson
(central holding midfield) put us 2-0 up soon
after the first goal with a cool half volley into the
corner of the net. Next up, it was Sam "The
Weapon" Geenty's turn to fire with an absolute
bullet of a shot from the right hand corner of the
box into the left hand corner of the net. Goal of
the season so far. 3-0 to the cycles at half-time.
We dominated the first half and could have
been up by more (should have had a penalty in
the box but it wasn't given) however we had
come back against other teams from 3-0 down
and we were still wary that Wellington could do
the same against us. This was despite having a
player on the sideline with cramp and going
down to ten men - yes these sorts of things do
happen in Cap 10.
The second half was much the same as the first
but even more of a goal fest. Nat Bunyan took us
to 4-0 up and then Wellington pulled back a
consolation goal to make it 4-1. Our centre back
Chris decided he wanted in on the action too
and played completely out of position but man-
aged to score after Tyler hit the crossbar and the
ball rebounded to Chris' feet. It was a well exe-
cuted half-volley and he got given some stick. It
is not that Chris doesn't score often, he just usu-
ally scores with his head (and another part of
his body that we won't mention here...) not his
feet. 5-1 cycles. Next our two leading goal scor-
ers, Boyce and Tyler further added to the tally
with another two well finished goals on the
counter attack bringing the total to 7. But the
drama hadn't finished yet. Captain of the team,
Zak Murray had never scored a goal in open
play for the cycles (I won't elude to how many
matches it has taken - he had previously only
scored a penalty) but it was finally his moment
to shine. Beautiful build-up play lead to Tyler
dribbling the ball past Wellington's right back
and into the box where he crossed it along the
ground in front of goal and a flying Zak Murray
slotted the ball inside the near post. After an ex-
cessive celebration for the eighth goal of the
match (Wellington must had thought he was
just a right royal d*ck) and hugging nearly every
player to the howl of celebratory Baboons the
match continued and played to its conclusion.
Final score 8-1. Also of mention is that our
keeper was injured for this match and so our
right winger and centre back each took a turn in
goal for a half, thank you Chris Owen and Sam
Geenty.
Man of the match was Tyler Jackson (central
holding midfield) for his two goals and three as-
sists as well as his inspirational words and the
decision to pass the ball to the captain for a goal
instead of scoring his hat-trick. Good choice Ty-
ler, you can start on the field next week. The win
put us 2nd on the table and only 3 points behind
Miramar Rangers Mysterions who we will meet
again later in the season. A big win was needed
to boost the team and the boys stepped up. A
child passing by suggested to his dad that we
could beat Real Madrid and I said, "Of course
we can, we are Brazil".

Club XI - 24-28 May 2014
Keeper:
Matt Mortimer - Winger Matt Mortimer who
played in goal for the Scarfies and made some
good saves for playing there for the first time .
Matt Walker Player of the day for the Mens
Firsts, who pulled off some amazing saves
throughout the game and almost did enough to
poach a draw against Island Bay

mance for the Wanderers in their derby against
the Corinthians. Baz Burrage held firm and a
smart ball resulted in a break up the field which
lead to the Wanderers first .

lineup for the Rods and excelled by not sucking
too much, in a fine defensive performance
against Island Bay and the elements.

the Marauder's attack, and led the Amigos
backline well. Superb performance

Ben JagersmaVoted player of the day for
the Beavers for winning the toss, taking the
wind and scoring the Beavers only goal.
Strikers
Hamish McNicolfCaptian of the Amigos.
Didnt make the Player of the Day shortlist in
his own write-up but four goals in a match is
good enough for us.
Matt Rowe another carryover f rom the
Firsts last week. Scored a brace in their great
win over Petone Reserves.
Rebekah Lee- Rebekah played with energy
and determination on the weekend - had some
great plays and was unlucky for missing out that

Mens Firsts Match Report

Venue: Kelburn Park (2.30pm kick-off,
May 24, 2014)
Visiting Island Bay gained the early ascendancy
in windy and wet conditions, with a player cut-
ting in from the right and clipping the far post
with a strike and then a long throw being de-
flected from close range directly into the hands
of University keeper Matt Walker. Striker
Matt Wilson and flank midfielder Matt Rowe
combined to earn a corner from a dangerous
attack down the left flank, with the resulting
place kick from Wilson being plucked off the
head of skipper Si Davies at the far post by the
Island Bay keeper.
In fast-paced action, Wilson could not quite
clear his feet in a scramble on the edge of the
visiting penalty area and then left back Matt
Ryan set Wilson away down the left with his
early cross being just volleyed past the left-
hand goal connection by flank midfielder Seb
Ninness. A mistake between the visiting sides
defence and keeper saw Wilson gifted a shoot-
ing opportunity, but his attempted chip drifted
over the crossbar. Ryan was on hand to make
a goal-saving clearance after University had lost
the ball playing out from defence and Island
Bay then shot over the bar, before Rowe was
almost played through on goal at the other end
of the park.
Walker easily dealt with a shot from distance
but then had to make another point-blank-
range save from another long throw-in and,
having dealt with a University attack, Island
Bay found a player in space around the home
sides area but he blazed wide. Following an-
other strike wide from Island Bay, University
almost found substitute Dave Hudson in the
visiting area after a good build up involving
right back Steve Davey, central midfielder
Miles Lloyd and Rowe.
Walker was back in the action early in the sec-
ond period, punching away a dangerous cross
and making a reflex save off the rebound, and

another Island Bay delivery from the left
threatened at the far post. A Ninness touch
played in central midfielder Aidan Lawrence on
the right who set up Wilson for a one-on-one,
with Lawrence shooting just over from the re-
sulting save.
Island Bay then created a period of intense
pressure -- a cut back from the right set up a
shot that was deflected over for a corner, the
resulting place kick from the right was deflect-
ed just past the near post by the defence, the
following corner created a shooting chance that
Walker tipped over his bar and the next corner
created a scramble in the area with the ball ulti-
mately being fired over. Walker then saved ac-
robatically from a shot from the left of the area,
another Island Bay strike from distance went
wide and two shots on the edge of the area were
blocked.
With University having then clawed back into
the contest, a Rowe lay back presented Hudson
for a promising strike that was
blocked. Immediately after a one-on-one cre-
ated by University in attack had been pulled
back for off-side, an Island Bay players turn
and shot in the home sides area was deflected
over. A touch on by Davey put Wilson away
and his cross was just cleared off the boot of the
arriving Rowe, with the resulting corner from
Ninness just eluding arriving University heads.
Walker then gathered a cross-shot well and an-
other dangerous Island Bay long throw-in, sub-
stitute Michael Lahood headed a promising
right-wing corner from Hudson wide, before
Island Bay threatened again on a long throw
from the right with play ultimately pulled up
for hand ball. However, just after University
almost broke away on attack, the visiting side
was to seal all three points in the final minute
of normal time. A pinpoint delivery from the
left found an attacker on the far post, he in

stantly killed the ball under pressure from a
University defender and firmly netted back
across goal.
Coachs comments: I really feel for the lads
over the nature of this result. Island Bay strive
to play a nice brand of fast, attacking football
with considerable movement to deal with -- and
deal with it they had done to a man, only to con-
cede on 90 minutes. Fair play to Island Bay of
course. They are a good side and created many
scoring opportunities -- and that touch and fin-
ish from their scorer was exceptional. But I am
really proud of the performance of our guys.
With the way Island Bay move the ball and cre-
ate things, we could easily have been a couple of
goals down midway through that first half. But
we kept them out by every man taking up his
defensive duties, staying with runners, organis-
ing themselves and each other etc to a level not
seen before.
We could have even pinched the game ourselves
with some of the chances we created. To my
mind, this is the best team performance Ive
seen from the Firsts since my involvement at
the club. It is really impressive to see the team
ethos being fully absorbed and things worked
on at training being reflected on a Saturday.
We now regroup to take on Seatoun away at
Seatoun Park this coming Saturday and then
host North End from Palmerston in a 2pm kick-
off on Monday.
