Excellence in Radiology Award

This award is presented to the organisation or department that has made the greatest contribution in the field of
imaging and diagnostics.

Criteria for selection:
Quality assurance programme - Achievement through quality assurance programme (implementation,
improvement, etc...)
Accuracy of Radiological Diagnosis Accuracy in each imaging modality (true positive, true negative, false
positive, false negative)
Turn around time - by type of examination (time from the imaging request is issued till report result)
Patient safety in the department - including identification of patients, patient falls, communication with the
patients)
Workflow and safe design workflow of patients, staff, support function, etc. and how design promote safety
inside the department
Radiation safety policy - Implementation of policy
Waste management policy - Implementation and improvement of policy

Excellence in Surgery Services Award

This award is presented to the organisation or department that has made the greatest contribution in the field of
surgery.

The following criteria must be addressed to measure the extent the organisation abides by the International Clinical
Pathways / guidelines.

Criteria for selection:
Unplanned rate of return to the OR
Post infection rates
Average length of stay
Success rates

Excellence in Patient Centred Care Award

This award is presented to the hospital or institution that has developed the most effective patient centred care
approach in the region.

Criteria for selection:
What initiatives have you implemented to make your hospital/institution more patient orientated/friendly?
What initiatives have you implemented to educate the patient?
Evidence of increasing patient satisfaction
Patient privacy
Patient rights

Young Surgeon of the Year Award

The Young Surgeon Award of the Arab Health aims to recognise the accomplishments of young surgeons where all
surgical residents, fellows, and surgeons up to the age of 40 are eligible to apply for the award.

Review criteria - All applicants will be evaluated according to the following:
Academic achievements, which include education, research, publications and affiliation with professional
associations
Social commitments, including volunteer work and public education programs
Role as an educator and a mentor involved in educating junior surgical staff and medical students, and
participates in organising education activities, such as conferences
Application requirements:
Applicant must not be more than 40 years of age as of 1 November 2013

Cleveland Clinic Young Clinician Award

The winner of this award will be taken on a week long tour of the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, USA.
Accommodation and flight tickets will be provided as part of the award.
This award is presented to a physician (under the age of 40 years) who has made the greatest contribution to making a
difference in the lives of their patients in the Middle East. Individuals may be nominated by an institution or a peer who
must detail why they feel the nominee deserves to be recognised for his/her achievements.

Outstanding Contribution of an Individual to the Middle East
Healthcare Industry Award

This award will recognise an outstanding healthcare professional that has made a significant contribution to the
healthcare industry in the Middle East. These contributions, whether they have been in research, leadership, innovation
or mentorship, must have had a lasting impact in the region and must have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to
develop the industry.

Individuals may be nominated by a company or a peer who must detail why they feel the nominee deserves to be
recognised for their achievements.

Roche Excellence in Laboratory Award

This award is presented to the organisation or department that has made the greatest contribution in the field of
medical laboratory.
Criteria for selection:
Evidence of true positive results
Safety within the laboratory
Waste management policy and blood management policy
Patient identification
Innovation
Continuous improvement for example Lean and Six Sigma
The Society of Behavioral Medicine annually provides several awards to members recognizing outstanding
achievement and contribution to the field of behavioral medicine. Award recipients are recognized at the Annual
Meeting & Scientific Sessions.
Distinguished Scientist Award
Selection for the Distinguished Scientist Award is based on total career achievement. Nominees must have achieved
scholarly distinction i.e., made a series of distinguished empirical contributions or contributed substantially to the
development of new theories or methods.
Alere Wellbeing Research to Practice Award
The Alere Wellbeing Research to Practice Award recognizes an individuals contributions and exemplary work in
translating or extending behavioral medicine from research into practical application, dissemination, or
implementation. Eligible candidates may have made substantial contributions to any phase of translational work,
including a) development of new and effective treatments, b) promoting uptake of effective, sustainable health
promoting interventions into new contexts; or c) fostering development of practice-based research.
Early Career Investigator Award
Selection of the Early Career Investigator Award is based on total career achievement and review of a representative
published paper.
Outstanding Dissertation Award
Each year SBM recognizes excellence in a Student/Trainee Members research through the Outstanding Dissertation
Award.
Distinguished Student Awards
SBM offers the Distinguished Student Awards from funds raised through the Advocacy & Membership Development
Campaign and funds donated from Springer Science+Business Media. These awards are provided to students who
demonstrate outstanding academic and professional potential in the field of behavioral medicine. The three award
categories for the Distinguished Student Awards include Excellence in Research, Excellence in Service Delivery and
Travel Scholarship.
Distinguished Research Mentor Award and Distinguished Clinical Mentor Award
For many of us there was one individual who really stood out during our training. It may have been your advisor or a
faculty member who took a special interest in your work. The Mentor Awards were designed to honor outstanding
service as a mentor in the clinical/professional arena, in honor of clinical mentorship or research endeavors.
Nominees should be seen as those mentors who have fostered excellence in, and had a major impact on the field of
behavioral medicine by virtue of their role as a mentor.
Excellence in Behavioral Medicine Training Program Award
The purpose of the Excellence in Behavioral Medicine Training Program Award is to identify and honor a training
program at any level that provides behavioral medicine training. The training program in question can be research
and/or clinically focused and can occur in any discipline, but especially with an interdisciplinary approach.
he Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award recognizes a medical school faculty physician who
exemplifies the qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor in the teaching and advising of medical students.
