D2.9
NATIONAL BUILDING CODE OF CANADA REQUIREMENTS
PAGE 2 OF 2 RELEASE DATE: : 4/05/04
h
x
= height above base of equipment attachment
h
r
= height above base of roof.
Anchorage Requirements
All fasteners and anchors in a ductile connection, such as bolts, inserts, welds, or dowels,
must be capable of developing a force at least three times the yield load of the
components to be connected (4.1.9.1-18).
Vibration Isolated Equipment Factors
If isolated, the following factor based on the type of equipment being restrained should be
used to increase Seismic design loads.
Equipment Type Factor
Supports for Light Machinery, shaft or motor driven 1.2
Supports for reciprocating machinery (eg. Compressors) 1.5
Supports for power driven unit (eg. Piston engines) 1.5
Table D2.9-1
Factors for the Calculation of Impact Loads
Exceptions
No seismic design is required for suspended ceilings and mechanical/electrical equipment
for non post-disaster buildings located in seismic zones where Z
a
and Z
v
are less than or
equal to 1.0 and F is equal to or less than 1.3. Z
a
and Z
v
are the acceleration and
velocity-related seismic zones as specified in Appendix C of the building code. F is the
foundation factor accounting for soil type (Table 4.1.9.1.C).
