Biography
Birdy (born as Jasmine van den Bogaerde) was born
on 15 May 1996 in Hampshire, England and is now 18.
She has been playing piano since the age of seven and
started writing her own songs at the age of eight. Her
mother was a concert pianist. Her stage name comes
from her parents old nickname for her and is still used to
this day.
Her inspiration for writing songs partially came from her early success
in winning the Open Mic UK talent show in 2008, when she was only
12.
Birdys Albums
Her debut album, Birdy, consists of mainly covers of other songs and
one original composition. This album made 1.5 million dollars and topped
the charts in eight countries.
Her second album, Fire Within, was released in September 2013. It contains more original
compositions than her first album, showing her advanced maturity and the challenges she was
willing to tackle. This album turned out to be a great success, being in the top ten chart positions in
nine countries.
Achievements
In 2014, Birdy was nominated for the 2014 BRIT Awards as Best British Female Solo Artist. In the
same year, she won the Echo Award for International Female Solo Artist, beating artists such as
Lorde and Katy Perry.
Birdys single, Just a Game, was one of the contributions to The Hunger Games movie playlist.
