    MotivicImprovisation(CellularImprovisation):
    InspiredbythethematicimprovisationofSonnyRollinsandtheearlyatonalcompositionsof
    ArnoldSchoenberg,theimproviserusesamotiformusicalcelltoguidethe
    improvisation.
    Amotive(ormusicalcell)isashortmusicalideawhichcanbedefinedbypitches,intervals
    orrhythms.Theycanbeusedtocreatelargermelodiesasthebasisofentireworks.
    BeethovensFifthSymphonyisbasedonafournotemotiveanditsaccompanying
    rhythm.
    Decideonamotivetostartwithandbeginimprovisingwithit.Forexample,apitchmotive
    mightbeginasB,C,Abeforeitissubjectedtotranspositionandtransformation.A

    Haveeveryonepicktheirownmoodtoexpressandplayersthenattempttointeract
    musically.Havethemguesseachothersmoodoncefinished.
