Dear Mrs.Robinson,

Hello my name is Justine, today I would like to inform you about some security rules I have
learned during unit one of my BTT class. I think that these rules should be put into action in our
school because they would protect our computers and prolonge their life.
Over the course of unit one I have learned many rules, but 9 key ones. Here is what these rules
are and a breif summary of how you can be safe and secure using todays technology:
1. Keep your patches up-to-date. Programs have a lot of security holes, once realizing there is
a problem the program provider will create a program update or patch to fix the problem(s). You
should always keep your patches up to date to decrease your chances of being attacked.
2. Keep your virus scanner up to date. New viruses are made and realeased each day. You
should get a virus scanner to protect your computer and lower your chances of being infected.
3. Be cautious of attachments. Attachments can contain bugs and viruses, unless your
expecting an attachment or you know the person who has sent you an attachment do not open
it. This is just to make sure that your computer will not be infected.
4.Install a Firewall.A firewall puts a wall between your computer and the net. It controlls what
comes in out to ensure that nothing harmful will come in contact with your computer.
5. Check essential service settings. You should check your settings to ensure that you can
see all of an attachment and are able to determain if it is harmful to your computer.
6. Test your defense. Visit websites such as Sheild Up which will check your security to see if
hackers can gain control of your device.
7. Detect and remove Spyware. Many programs install secret systems, check your computer to
make sure your free of harm.
8. Dont trust micorsoft.Microsoft has many holes and is an easy target for hackers. Dont trust
their secuirty and always install your own just to be sure your computer can not be breached.
9. Stay Informed. With new technologies being realeased and invented everyday try and stay
informed and up to date with how you can best protect yourself and your computer.
In conclusion by applying these 9 security rules to our school computers it would ensure that
they are safe from hackers and viruses. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my
letter, if you have any more questions please feel free to contact me.
Best Regards,
