BUSINESS SECTION 3. 1 Vision To help people enjoy life by providing a heathy and sustainable way to charge their smartphones on the run 3. 2 Industry Analysis: Smart Phone Battery and charger Industry. Industry: Smart Phone Battery and charger Industry. Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: Low
Users dont really have a choice on the way they charge their smartphone , is if you want to use your smartphone it has to be charged.
Supplier power: low
Companies would usually make their own products therefore would only need to source the raw materials (eg: plastic, metal, chemicals) from suppliers. The raw materials required are not hard to get a hold of as they are a common widley used products.
Threat of new entrants: High
Smartphones biggest problem is its battery life. Smartphones have rapidly developed but the batteries are not following suit. Threat to new 3
entrants is high as everyone wants to be the first to find a break through and fix the problem. Theres plenty of interest within the tech industry to make smartphone battery life better, and theres no shortage of emerging technologies to make it happen. (Newman, 2013) 3
Threat of substitutes: High Everyone is trying to find a way to solve the problem of poor smartphone battery life. And therefore its an industry with a lot of interest. With plenty of interest within the tech industry to make smartphone battery life better, and theres no shortage of emerging technologies to make it happen. (Newman, 2013) 3
Rivalry among existing competitors: High According to research and analytics firm IDC, battery life is the biggest single issue for consumers when choosing a handset (AFP, 2014) 4 Competition between companies if fierce to see who can provide the longest lasting battery because ultimately they will end up with the larger market share. Overall attractiveness of the industry: The industry is very attractive. Although this industry is complex in nature, todays technology makes it is possible. With over a billion smartphone users worldwide the whoever works out how to provide a long lasting battery will make a lot of money.

3. 3 Customers and Their Needs Target: Smartphone users. Mobile phones have become the most widespread technological device in human history, withmore than 5.6 billion subscribers (Goswami, 2014) 1 . People are becoming more reliant upon their smartphones and need a way to ensure a long lasting battery life. The increased reliance on smartphones is another trendy norm in today's fast- paced world. Smartphones check weather, news, surf the web, allow online purchases, play music, and provide a communication platform among users Mandurano, J and Haber, N., (2012) 2 Users need their smartphones to make todays fast paced world simple, safe, easy and functional.
3. 4 The Product and Service Customers needs are satisfied by providing a device enabling them to charge their phone whenever wherever. Piezo allows its users to go about their lives with out the worry of a dead battery disconnecting them from the world. Piezo will allow users to charge the battery chip their shoe while applying pressure through their foot, when needed they can wiresly transfer power into their smartphones , charging them allowing access to everything contained on their smartphone ensuring that life remains easy, safe , simple and functional. 3. 5 Suppliers and Partners Partners 1- A Smart Phone company (Samsung) Piezo is made for smartphones so this company would be the perfect partner. team of experts and gain knowledge from one of the biggest players in the market. 2- Fitness Brand (Nike) Piezo also promotes a healthy lifestyle by getting people to makes their own power. Nikes vision is Just do it showing that they promote a healthy lifestyle. Original idea stemed from a product that Nike made, a pedomiter and the compartment in Nikes Sports shoes. Partnering with Nike would allow us a great customer base aswell as resources (shoes) that already fit our device. Parntnering with these companies would help Piezo gain credibility and customer trust. Both companies provide a solid well established platform to work of. Suppliers 1- Plastic Suppliers (Plastic Suppliers Inc) The battery is inside a plastic casing. Plastic was chosen as it will protect the componets inside and increase durability making the product long lasting. Plastic has to capibility to be shaped and molded to meet our needs aswell as our customers meaning that is an easy material to adapt to change.
2- Lithium Suppliers Lithium is a chemical that is used already in smartphone batteries. It is able to be recharged and hence why it is able to be used in smartphones. Piezo is also a rechargable battery and we would use this chemical in our product to allow it to be rechargable in order to meet its purpose. (Brain, Marshall 2014) 6
3. 6 Strategy: Differentiation
Differentiation is our strategy as Piezo is a high cost product with a broard market. Piezo caters to a broard market as there are 1.3 Billion Smart Phone users worldwide (Business insider 2013) 5 and high cost as Piezo it a technological product that I believe will be more expensive in comarison with standard chargers. A differentiation strategy is chosen as the market is not price sensative meaning they are willing to spend money. The maket consists of people with specific needs that are understated in this case they need better battery life. Piezo provides them with a unique resource to satify their understated needs. 6
The overall strategy is therefore Differentiation 3. 7 Value Chain Activity: Technology Development & R&D The most important value chain activity for this business is Technology Development & R&D Peizo is a technology based device and with the rapidly changing technological world we face today , to gain a competative advantage its important that we keep up to date with the new technology.
