CVCC –MATCH REPORTS ........... By HUGH R.

GONE

A GRADE

Anticipation turned into reality when the combined A Grade side of Chapman Valley and
Northampton joined forces to take it up to the other big boys. Taking on reigning premiers
Wanderers in a 20/20 match, the sweltering conditions were no excuse for the new captain
Shaun ‘Ninga’ Emerson losing his first toss and ensuring that we fielded.

It is comforting to note that the trusty helpers off the field have a wonderful afternoon tea
ready once the hard yards are out of the way. Always nice to have Choggy looking after us
with a cupper and some helpful tips! Anyway, we bowled well and fielded okay- restricting a
quality batting line up to 148. All the bowlers showed glimpses that we will be competitive if
we can catch.

Ninga and Darren Harris opened the batting and never looked troubled by the bowling. At 1
for 55 at the half way mark, it was time to stop playing for a draw and tee off at the second
string bowlers. We lost the rest of our wickets to be all out for 96. We all gave our wickets
away trying to manufacture scoring shots to increase the run rate. Hopefully, this indicates
our batting line up are straight bats, and will be more effective grafting runs in the longer
form of the game.

Congratulations to all who have had input into putting together an A Grade team. It is a
credit to all that we have a pathway to blood our young boys to the top level in Geraldton.

B GRADE

The CVCC/NCC combined B Grade side took on Bluff Point CC in a grudge match at Green
Street to open the season and notched up our first senior win of the year. Shane Higgins
revelled in his new role as Captain of the twos with an inspirational opening address,
welcoming the NCC players, new faces and our 2 juniors who filled in.

Batting first, we got away to a flyer to be 1 for 40 after 4 overs. Everyone had a dip in the 20
overs, shaking off the dust, spider webs and mouse poo from their gear. From the smell of
things some kit bags may not have been opened since the GF last year. We managed to
score a competitive 114, with highlights including Simon Mckay’s consecutive boundaries to
open his account at senior level, Jamie Criddle’s towering 6 onto the next oval and Geoff
Perera’s mammoth hit that went over the fence and down the street.

Our bowling and fielding was tight and contained the BPCC batsmen well, a couple of quality
run-outs, tight bowling from Zane Robinson(1/21) and Criddle(3/3) and a ‘Lethal’ Leon Goad
HAT-TRICK (4/10) saw the Pointers all out for 89.

We followed up with a twilight game against Dongara on an oval without lights. Didn’t see
much of this game but apparently Dongara got over the line by 69 runs, just before the
mosquito’s attached sending everyone home.

There are exciting times ahead for CVCC/NCC with plenty of faces at training, great support
from our sponsors, supporters, wives and families. Nabawa Oval will have senior cricket on
every Saturday afternoon during summer so drop in to see Choggy Kupsch for a cup of tea, a
chinwag and some quality cricket on the best turf cricket venue outside of Perth.
