I am an English Literature student of Universitas Brawijaya.

I am on the third semester

now and I have finished 22 lectures until now. Among all lectures I have learned, there are
two subjects that I like the most. The subjects are good and enjoyable. They are
Understanding Longer Talks (ULT) and Critical Reading (CR). There are some similarities
and differences between them.
Understanding Longer Talks (ULT) and Critical Reading (CR) have three similarities.
The first is both of them were taught by the same lecturer. The lecturer was Ms. Lely. She is
an easy-going lecturer so all of my classmates and I had so much fun with her. We watched
so many movies together and had many good conversations. We really enjoyed the classes.
The second is the two subjects also took the same building which in Gedung Kuliah Bersama
(GKB). GKB is a joint building of some faculties like faculty of culture studies, faculty of
social, and faculty of. It is located beside the rectorate building. And the last is I had those
subjects in the same room. I had the two subjects in room 1.4. The room is big and
comfortable. Beside the similarities, they also have some differences.
There are four differences between them. The first is the content. In ULT we learn
about listening, while in CR we learn about reading. The aim of the subjects is also different.
The students are expected to be able to understand longer talks after learning ULT. We
listened to many conversations so that we got used to listen to English conversation.
Sometimes we listened to some songs then the lecturer would give us a paper where the lyrics
are printed on it. We had to fill the missing words in the lyric. On the other hand, the students
are expected to be able to read and understand texts well after learning CR. We read many
texts to develop our reading ability. We analyze the writers purposes in their writings.
Whether it is persuasive, informative, convincing, or descriptive. Sometimes the writers also
try to make us take a side. The last is the time schedule. I had those two subjects on different
days. I had ULT class in Thursday while CR class on Wednesday.
Even though ULT and CR have some similarities and differences, I know one thing for
sure that I like both of them. I really enjoyed both of them because they are . Both subjects
taught me to have a better skill in English.
