BY CONTROL PANEL
Introduction
Knowing which control panel is installed on a generator set is key to understanding the capability that the PL421
hardware variant will deliver to the Cat

Product Link solution. Use this information to help identify the controller
installed on a generator set and the features that the PL421 can enable for each.

Getting More Information
Identifying the Version of Control Panel
The most reliable method of identifying what version of controller is currently installed is to run a Product Status
Report using Cat ET.
In addition as-shipped factory information can be referenced by accessing the Technical Marketing Information (TMI)
system at tmiweb.cat.com. Locate as-shipped factory information on TMI through the following steps:
1. Select 'Engine/Parts Data' from the left hand navigation list
2. Enter the serial number in the Reference Number field and select 'Serial Number' from the drop down menu.
Click on Retrieve Data
3. Click on As Shipped in the top middle of the screen
4. Scroll down and look on the right side for the generator set controller and ADEM controller

NOTES:
(1) Feature/Alerts are supported on Electronic (EUI) Engines that have an ADEM III or A4 Engine ECM with EMCP
3.X or PW X.0, they are NOT supported on Mechanical (MUI) Engines with EMCP 3.X or PW X.0
(2) Requires EMCP/PW software versions: 4.1.1 Prod - Low End (EMCP 4.1, EMCP 4.2, PW 1.1, PW 1.1+, PW
2.1), 4.2 Prod - High End (EMCP 4.3, EMCP 4.4) or newer
(3) Data is imported directly from Caterpillar S-O-S Services database. Must first be a registered user of the Dealer
Storefront and then of S-O-S Services
(4) Maintenance: Generator Set-specific PM schedule, checklist, and part list information are not available, but
standard PM 1-4 is created
(5) Feature only supported on Electronic (EUI) Engines that have an ADEM III or A4 Engine ECM, feature NOT
supported on Mechanical (MUI) Engines
(6) Feature NOT supported on EMCP 3.1, PW 1.0. Feature supported on EMCP 3.2, EMCP 3.3, PW 2.0 ONLY with
resistive fuel level senders. Fuel level sender must be wired into available analog input on EMCP/PW and
analog input must be configured properly using the service tool/display
(7) Feature NOT supported on PW 1.1. Fuel level sender must be wired into available analog input on EMCP/PW
and analog input must be configured properly using the service tool/display
(8) Feature NOT supported on EMCP 3.1, EMCP 4.1, PW 1.0, PW 1.1, PW 1.1+
