A licensing chief for the State Liquor Authority allegedly handled applications
submitted by his own nephew, and they jointly gave gift cards --including $300 for
a swanky steakhouse --to staff at the agency's 'Harlem office,.
Now the two are the focus of an investigation into bribery at the booze-regulating
agency, according to documents obtained by The Post.

The two allegedly gave city licensing head Dana Christian a $300 gift certificate to
Sparks Steak House and city licensing board member Ken Sussman a $200
certificate to p .f .Chang's.
The questionable gifts were dis'closed in two J~nuary letters from SLA lawyer Tom
Donohue to the state Inspector General's Office, which with the Manhattan DA is
investigating the SLA.
The two agencies this month raided the authority's Harl~m office, which processes
liquor licenses for establishments in the city , Westchester and Long Island.
"Agency staff has been gdvised that they cannot accept anything mo!e than an
occasional cup of coffee [from] individuals who represent applicants and
licensees;," Donohue wrote in one of the letters.
In addition to the Gioffres1 presents, two $50 Macy's gift cards and three ,$50 Gap
gift cards were given to staff members of the licensing bureau in Harlem by Marti

power and money to members of the legal profession. It has nothing ethics or
interest In any law.

Harrison Lawyer Charged with DWI in White

then discovered with his Mercedes-Benz in the basement of a parking garage, police said. Bruno Gioffre, Jr. was charged with driving while
~ intoxicated. -
-"'Gi51fr~, first caught attention from police when an officer said Gioffre was speeding down Westchester Ave. and ran a red light at S Kensico
Avenue at about 715 p.m He was pulled over at 237 Martine Ave. When asked why he may have been stopped, Gioffre told officers, "because
I wasn't wearing my seat belt," police reports said
The police officer told Gioffre that he was driving at an "excessive speed" and asked him to remain in the car while the officer wrote a summons
Police said when the officer looked up, Gioffre had moved his Mercedes-Benz to a location out of police's sight and was approaching the officer
Gioffre was told to return his car to its original spot and remain in his Mercedes, according to police However, police said he drove down into the
parking garage, prompting the officer to call for backup.
Police said the attorney approached them unsteadily and slurred his words when they discovered him in the garage basement Police reports
said Gioffre refused to take a sobriety test in the parking lot as well as chemical sobriety tests at police headquarters
He was arrested and charged with one count of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
