Insulating Bus-Bar Connections

Instructions

Cable to Bus-Bar

Bus-Bar to Bus-Bar

A. Prepare Cable
1. Train Cable into position and cut to proper length.
2. Prepare cable and install terminal lug (and
termination if applicable) per manufacturers
direction.
3. Bolt lug to Bus-Bar.
B. Insulate Connection
1. Apply 1 half-lapped layer of Scotch Super 33+
Tape over lug and bolted connection.
NOTE: This layer is applied so connection can
be easily re-entered.
2. Fill in around bolts and sharp areas with
Scotchfil Electrical Putty to smooth
connection.
NOTE: Do not substitute any materials for Scotchfil
Electrical Putty.
3. Insulate connection with half-lapped layers
Scotch 2228 Rubber Mastic Tape. Apply tape
over entire connection area according to tape
chart (reverse). Stretch tape approximately 20%.
4. Apply 2 half-lapped layers of Super 33+ Tape
over insulating tape, extending 1 (25mm) onto
cable insulation or jacket, or existing bus
insulation. (See main illustration.)

B. Insulate Connection
1. Apply 1 half-lapped layer of Scotch Super 33+
Tape over bolted connection.
NOTE: This layer is applied so connection can be
easily re-entered.
2. Fill in around bolts and sharp areas with
Scotchfil Electrical Putty to smooth
connection.
NOTE: Do not substitute any materials for Scotchfil
Electrical Putty.
3. Insulate connection with half-lapped layers
Scotch 2228 Rubber Mastic Tape. Apply tape
over entire connection area according to tape
chart (reverse). Stretch tape approximately 20%.
4. Apply 2 half-lapped layers of Super 33+ Tape
over insulating tape, extending 1 (25mm) onto
existing bus insulation. (See main illustration.)
