Where are you on the wellness continuum?
I. Describe where you are on the aboe continuum !or each o! the components below.
Physical wellness" #his is the ability to maintain a healthy $uality o! li!e that allows us to get
through our %aily actiities without un%ue !atigue or physical stress &'niersity o! Cali!ornia(
)01)*. +ase% on this I woul% say that I !all on the E%ucation en% o! the spectrum. I can go
through %aily actiities without !atigue or physical stress but am unsure what %i!!erent e$uipment
an% e,ercises to %o to tone an% maintain my weight an% physical !itness.
-piritual wellness" #his is the ability to establish peace an% harmony in our lies &'niersity o!
Cali!ornia( )01)*. With this in min% I woul% say that my spiritual wellness is at a neutral point. I
hae religious alues that I will always stay true too but sometimes I get %iscourage% by %i!!erent
eents that occur in my li!e an% then eentually work things out.
-ocial wellness" #his is the ability to relate to an% connect with other people &'niersity o!
Cali!ornia( )01)*. I beliee that I !all on the .wareness on the wellness continuum since I am
able to talk an% sociali/e with people I hae something in common with or hae know !or $uite a
while. I am aware that I coul% be more open to new people an% try to !in% something in common
with them.
Intellectual wellness" #his is the ability to open our min%s to new i%eas an% e,periences that can
be applie% to personal %ecisions( group interaction an% community betterment &'niersity o!
Cali!ornia( )01)*. With the !act that I want to continue my e%ucation a!ter Chesapeake
Community College makes it clear to me that I am in between e%ucation an% growth on the
Wellness Continuum.
Emotional wellness" #he ability to un%erstan% ourseles an% cope with the challenges li!e can
bring an% to acknowle%ge0share !eelings o! anger( !ear( sa%ness( stress( hope( loe( 1oy an%
happiness in a pro%uctie manner &'niersity o! Cali!ornia( )01)*. 2aing !amily an% !rien%s
with in my close circle to rely on an% ask $uestions to when the going gets tough is what helps
me get through an emotionally har% time an% en1oy a happier time as well. With this in min% I
woul% say I am at a neutral point on the wellness continuum.
Enironmental wellness" #he ability to recogni/e our own responsibility !or the $uality o! the air(
water an% the lan% that surroun%s us &'niersity o! Cali!ornia( )01)*. -ince I hae starte% to see
the %amages o! trash %isposal I hae starte% recycling. I also car pool to %i!!erent things when I
can to help control my %amage to the air $uality. I woul% place my sel! on the .wareness portion
o! the wellness continuum.
3ccupational wellness" #he ability to get personal !ul!illment !rom our 1obs or our chosen career
!iel%s while still maintaining balance in our lies &'niersity o! Cali!ornia( )01)*. With the !act
that I can en1oy my current 1ob on goo% %ays an% that I am e,cite% to be able to go into a career
a!ter my %egree shows that I am on the growth si%e o! the wellness continuum.

With the !act that I am in the e%ucation /one !or Physical Wellness I beliee I can
improe this area right now. I am currently learning how to engage young stu%ents
an% motiate them to be physically actie through this course as well as through
researching the Lets Move imitatie. I nee% to learn how to be more physically well
through learning about e,ercises I can %o to make my sel! more physically actie.
