Monday, March 3rd: No School
Tuesday, March 4th:
9:10-9:45: Lit Block 1:

Target: I can make predictions before and while reading a text.
Procedures:
Follow U7.W2. D1 plan
Assessment:
Teacher observation of student prediction sheet.
9:45-10:15: Music/Art
10:15-10:20: Bathroom Break
10:20-10:50: Writing
CCSS: W.2.1, W.2.5
Target: I can organize ideas for my persuasive letter as I pre-write.
Procedures: Students will fill out persuasive topic organizer as I pull students to back of
room for individual writing conferences to get them towards the rough draft step.
Assessment: Teacher observation of each students work during writing conferences.
10:50-11:15: Lit Block 2:
CCSS: RF.2.3.d, RF.2.3.f
Target: I can read and write words with er and or endings.
Procedures: spelling pre-test. Students self-correct tests in any different color. Brief
discussion of the weeks word pattern.
Assessment: Teacher observation of student pre-tests
11:15-11:40: Guided Reading 1:
Block 1 and 2: Goldspohn group: Dissect words that students marked with post-its. Discuss
strategies to figure out the words, then re-read to understand the sentence.
11:40-12:15: Lunch
12:15-12:50: Guided Reading 2:
Block 3: Pfieffer group: Dissect unknown words that students marked with post-its.
Students read entire book.
Block 4 and 5: Oliver group: Begin Enforcing Rules. Discuss pre-reading strategies. Begin
reading book and ask with whiteboards prompting questions before and after the students
read.
12:50-1:05: Recess
1:05-2:05: Math:

Target: I can identify pennies, nickels, and dimes and know their value.
Procedures:
-Pre-test C
-Follow lesson 8.1 lesson whole group lesson.
-Break into partners and give each pair a bag with a random number of pennies, nickels, and
dimes in it. Have them work together to count them.
Assessment:
Teacher observation during On My Own time.
Note how well students could count coin bags.
2:05-3:10: Social Studies/Sci/Health:
Target: I can explain the steps of the food chain.
Procedures:
Read What is a Food Chain?
Have students create their own food chain.
Assessment:
View student created food chains. Should include the sun first and make sense
sequentially.
3:15: Dismissal

Wednesday, March 5

Target: I can retell what happened in a story.
Procedures:
Follow U7.W2.D2 lesson
Fill out Beginning, Middle, End graphic organizer on chart paper as a class.
Students re-tell story to each other, emphasizing transition words.
Assessment:
Listen to student summaries and check for transition words/ correct summaries.
Practice skill in guided reading groups for further assessment.

CCSS: W.2.1, W.2.5

Procedures:
Read Farmer passage. Students highlight words ending in er and or. As a class, find the
root words and discuss change patterns.
Students word-sort words from day one and two word lists in word notebooks.
Assessment:
Teacher observation of student word sort charts.
Student results on word work.
11:15-11:40: Guided Reading 1:
Block 1 & 2: Goldspohn group: re-read book, discussing chunking strategies for unknown
words. Work on using non-fiction text features to understand text.
11:40-12:15: Lunch
12:15-12:50: Guided Reading 2:
Block 3: Oliver group: Ask comprehension card questions using whiteboards. After noting
each student response, have students share responses with each other and discuss a
perfect answer for each question.
Block 4 & 5: Pfieffer group: Same as Oliver group but for Animal book.
12:50-1:05: Recess:
1:05-2:05: Math:

Target: I can identify quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies and know their value.
Procedures:
Follow lesson 8.2 whole group.
Students count money bags again in pairs, but this time quarters are added.
Sing the quarter skip count song.
Assessment:
During On My Own time, pull students back one by one and have them identify a quarter,
nickel, dime, and penny from teachers hand. Note results on assessment sheet.
2:05-3:10: Social Studies/Sci/Health:
Target: I can explain how to be safe with strangers and when to call 9-1-1.
Procedures:
Follow discussion questions from teacher guide.
Students do strangers and 9-1-1 worksheet to get the boy safely to school by following all
rules.
Students write up mock-9-1-1 call worksheet.
Assessment:
View student worksheets.
3:15: Dismissal

Thursday, March 6
th

Target: I can reflect on my predictions.
Procedures:
Re-read The Ugly Duckling, as a class. Have students discuss whether their predictions
were right or wrong.
Students work in pairs on interview the duckling worksheet. They will present their
created interview when finished.
Assessment:
Listen to presentations and student ability to come up with appropriate questions.
9:45-10:15: Music/Art
10:15-10:20: Bathroom Break
10:20-10:50: Writing
CCSS: W.2.1, W.2.5

Show revise/edit model for shared persuasive writing piece to review this step in the
writing cycle.
Assessment: Teacher observation of each students work during writing conferences and
student ability to point out my purposeful mistakes in shared writing.

Procedures:
Class word-sort.
Students word-sort days 3 and 4 in word work notebook.
Assessment:
Note student ability to place card correctly.
Circulate room and check student word work notebooks.

Block 1 & 2: Goldspohn group: Ask comp card questions with whiteboards. Note student
responses then have them discuss the perfect answer to each question.
11:40-12:15: Lunch
12:15-12:50: Guided Reading 2:
Block 3: Pfieffer group: Finish comp card questions.
Block 4 & 5: Wentz/Tennis group: Discuss authors purpose, fill out pyramid worksheet.
Assess student ability to identify authors purpose (P.I.E.) with random books from
classroom library.

Procedures:

Procedures:
Spelling test, students write sentences for word wall words.
Assessment:
Grade spelling tests and give spelling grade and grammar grade. Check each students
ability to provide proper capitalization and punctuation.
11:15-11:40: Guided Reading 1:
Block 1 & 2: Oliver group: Ask comprehension questions on whiteboards and note student
responses. Have students discuss the perfect answer.
11:40-12:15: Lunch
12:15-12:50: Guided Reading 2:
Block 3: Old Main group: discuss student work on biography packets. Ask comprehension
card questions on whiteboards and note student responses. Have students discuss the
perfect answer.
Block 4 & 5: Pfieffer group: finish graphic organizer for Grouping Animals book. Book
wrap-up.
12:50-1:05: Recess
1:05-2:05: Math:

Target: I can count up the value of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.
Procedures:
Guided math groups. While students are not working with me, theyll do enrich pages,
money counting practice pages, and red math task cards.
Low group: count with money manipulatives. Re-teach worksheets for 8.1-8.3.
Middle group: count with money manipulatives. Re-teach worksheets for 8.1-8.3.
High group: count with money manipulatives, but make sure money goes higher than $1.
Assessment:
Check enrich pages students did at their seat.
Teacher observation of student grasp of objectives during guided math group time.
2:05-2:30: Health:
Target: I can list ways to stay safe in the kitchen.
Procedure: Teacher guide discussion questions.
Students cut and paste safety activity.
Assessment: Student quiz and performance on activity.
2:30-3:05: Computer lab time: Readtheory.org
