James started his career as a time served airframes and propulsion apprentice with the Royal Air Force in which
I spent thirteen years. He had several roles in industry before entering the Safety industry as an engineering
safety inspector in 1998. He has been teaching/training since 2005 providing health, safety, environment, and
engineering courses to organisations in both the UK and internationally (including Africa, Azerbaijan, USA and
China). With the international courses, he places an emphasis on ensuring a level of understanding for students
whose frst language is not English. James holds a Post Graduate Certifcate in Education, Post Compulsory
Education and Training from the University of Wales, Newport and BSc (Hons), Technology from The Open
University. He is a member of number of national and interenational professional bodies:
Associate Member: Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment - AIEMA ; Graduate Member:
Institute of Occupational Safety and Health IOSH ; Incorporated Engineer (IEng): Engineering Council
Member: Institution of Engineering & Technology MIET.

WHAT DOES THE QUALIFICATION COVER?
The NEBOSH International General Certifcate (IGC) covers the
principles relating to health and safety, identifcation and control of
workplace hazards and the practical application of this knowledge.
The IGC syllabus takes a risk management approach based on best
practice and international standards, such as the International Labour
Organisation (ILO) codes of practice. Local laws and cultural factors
may form part of the study programme where relevant and appropriate.
The qualifcation also features a practical workplace assessment.

UNIT IGC3:
INTERNATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY - PRACTICAL
APPLICATION
Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of the unit IGC 1 and
IGC2, by successful completion of an health and safety inspection of
a workplace
Complete a report to management regarding the inspection with
recommendations.
UNIT ASSESSMENT
Units IGC1 and IGC2 are taught units each assessed by one two-hour
written examination. Each written examination consists of ten short-
answer` questions and one long-answer` question. All questions are
compulsory.
Unit IGC3 is assessed by practical examination.
