PHYSICAL THERAPY STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS
INDONESIA

Sa Wad Dee from Thailand, fellow physical therapy students and professionals!

The Asia Physical Therapy Student Association (APTSA) is an organization
formed by Asian countries and offers physical therapy courses. It was
established to provide a venue for collaborative activities among physical
therapy students of the Asian region. Its mission is:
(1) to promote regional cooperation and interaction among
physical therapy students in Asia
(2) to expand physical therapy students horizons and to improve the
environment of PT education; and
(3) to enhance unique regional characteristics and international
competitiveness for PT students in Asia
Annually, as part of the attainment of its mission, APTSA holds an Asian
Congress to provide a venue for physical therapy students among APTSA
member countries to meet-up, learn and share experiences and insights about
the physical therapy programs from each country.
The first APTSA Congress in 2010 was held in Taiwan and provided
participants with an overview of the differences in physical therapy curriculum
across member countries of the APTSA, both at the baccalaureate and graduate
levels. The second APTSA Congress in 2011 was held in Japan and presented the
variations in the implementation of clinical internship programs across APTSA
member countries. The third APTSA Congress in 2012 was held in Philippines
and presented learning physical therapy in the Asian region. The fourth APTSA
Congress in 2013 was held in Taiwan and presented the Impact and Combination
between Physical Therapy and Traditional Medicine.

This 2014, the fifth APTSA congress will be held in Bangkok, Thailand. The
slogan of this year is Playing together means learning together. We focus on the
power of interaction, communication, sharing, discussion, cooperation, and
collaboration. By having opportunity for students to learn together and share
ideas with other countries and then integrate and abroad them into their own
country.
At the fifth congress of APTSA, the representative of member countries
will submit a presentation relevant to the theme successful aging; from clinic to
community. Due to the fact that aging population is defined as the increasing
proportion of elderly persons in the total population. As a consequence of the
sustained declines in fertility and mortality during the last three decades of the
20
th
century. Many countries face a rapidly growing population of elderly persons
will exceed the population of children.
The presentation aims to:
1. Present the physical therapy education and clinical practice with elderly
persons that relevant to community based rehabilitation (CBR) or primary care.
2. Share the student activities that improve quality of life for elderly persons and
others in community.
3. Discuss the difference and limitation of learning and clinical practice that
related to elderly persons and community based rehabilitation.
4. Promote health promotion by physical therapy students.
5. Encourage student participation in their own education.

The Congress is open to all physical therapy students from all levels in the
educational program of countries in the Asian region. Faculty members from
physical therapy institutions are also welcome to participate.
