Student Teachers Evaluation (write reflections on the following Critiquing another unrelated lesson
which someone else has taught):

Assessment of Learning Outcomes
To what extent did the learners achieve the intended learning outcomes?
As I conduct a general roving around the classroom and assist the students working on their activity, about 75%
of the Class was able to complete the task, while approximately 25% of the class had difficulty to complete the
task.

Describe the evidence you have for this.

In one of the religion class, the class was given an activity sheet to work on. The class was told to use a bible to
help them answer the questions or research the answers using the bible online on their laptop. While some
students were able to work smoothly on the activity, for those who struggled, the teacher had come up with
another solution.

Outline the follow-up to this lesson for the learners.
In order to help those that found it difficult to complete the task, the teacher showed a short video that was
barrowed and provided from the school library for the class to watch. The video reflected clearly on the content
of the activity hence enabled the students to gain a more insight and knowledge that could help them with the
task.

Evaluation of Teaching
Identify the teaching strategies / learning experiences that were most effective. Explain why.
The teaching strategies and learning experiences that was the most effect was when a science teacher did a
class discussion with the use of a power point presentation. The teacher would constantly question the students
in order to ensure that the student understand the content that is taught. Meanwhile, the teachers use of simple
language and term enabled the students to be more engage with their answers. The teacher would also
constantly repeat, rephrase and emphasize the question when discussing with the class. This is evidence when
the teacher questioned, Why does the polar bear have white fur? How does it benefit them? This was an
effective strategy for the student to be engaging in learning, especially if a student answer may be wrong, the
teacher continued to praise them stating, Youre on the right track, but its not the main reason. This teaching
strategy allowed the whole class to be involved during in the discussion.

Identify the teaching strategies / learning experiences that were least effective. Explain why.
One of the teaching strategies and learning experiences that was the least effective was when the teacher had
set a non-assessment class task where the students was ask to create an oral group presentation based on a
given topic which they had learnt in class. During the presentation the teacher would question the students to
test their understanding of the topic. This was not an effective strategy due to the fact that the students had
difficulty in answering the question which lead to the teacher answering the question herself and providing
further explanation. This demonstrates that the student knowledge of the content has not been completely
understood. The teacher stated that If I made this task as an assessment, the students would have done
better. However, the task was non-assessment; hence the students did not do quite well.

How appropriate was the timing throughout the various sections of the lesson? Why?
The timing was very appropriate throughout the various sections of the lesson, as the teacher was able to
manage their time to have an introduction to the lesson and gradually ease into the development of the teaching
and learning of the topic to be studied. Towards the end of the lesson, the teacher had provided themselves a
decent amount of time to conclude the lessons by revising with the class the things that was taught in the
lessons before setting homework and dismissing the class.

Describe how the selection and use of resources supported learning in the lesson.
In various lessons, the variety of selection and use of resources such as laptop, textbook e.g (to Know worship
and Love and the Bible), and ICT powerpoint became an effective teaching strategy as it help the learners to
research task and seek into a deeper understanding of the task which helps to support their learning in the
lesson.

Identify what motivated the students. Explain why.
The things that motivated the students to learn, was the amount of resources that is available to the students
and the resources which students can access to. With the use and help of the resources such as laptop and
textbooks, students are able to focus on answering questions or working on an activity as it provides them with
the answers they need. When there is a lack of resources, students often struggles to answer the question,
hence they have difficultly to do the task and often give up or feel unmotivated to complete the task. This can
result in student to misbehave and disrupt the class.

Identify the classroom management strategies that were most effective. Explain why.
The Classroom management strategies that was most effective when gaining students attention is a non-verbal
action of eye contact. The teacher would wait and pause as she gives eye contact to students around the
classroom to indicate to the students to be quiet and pay attention. Another classroom management strategy is
to kindly ask the students to treat everyone with respect especially when someone is talking or presenting and
reminding the students to raise their hands when answering questions. When students misbehave such as
swinging on their chairs, the teacher would advise them not to and would retell an incident that resulted in an
injury when someone misbehave. This is an effective strategy so that the student could understand the
consequences and not repeat the behaviour.

What was most satisfying about the lesson?
The most satisfying about the lesson is when the teacher is able to teach the content that can be easily
understood by the students and set a task which the students are able to complete. It is also satisfying to be able
to assist students in their work when needed.

Based on these reflections, outline the steps you should now take to improve your teaching in future
lessons.
The steps that I should now take to improve my teaching in the future is to create an effective strategies that will
help assist and enhance students learning in a more diverse way, in order for the students to be motivated and
engage in their work in a positive light.
