Krombach Metal Seated

Ball Valves
Strengths and Advantages
MSBV
Features
Krombachs polygon shape ensures proper torque
transmission to the ball.
Reduced stress in this connection results in
reduced stress on the ball, giving the ball greater
resistance to corrosion.
Two-piece ball and stem allows for different
materials to be used, reducing cost. Competitors
one-piece ball and stem increases price because:
The more expensive material must be used
for both ball and stem.
Repair or replacement involves both ball and
stem, not just the problematic piece.
Ball / Stem Connection
ADVANTAGE:
Effective torque transmission
reduces stress on ball and
stem, extending valve life.
The shape of competitor ball/stem connections does not
effectively transmit torque, causing increased stress on the ball.
Ball Roundness Precision
The Krombach lapping procedure provides:
Machining tolerances so precise that lapping is consistently
accurate and exact. This results in:
Self-cleaning sealing system design removes adhesive media
when the valve is cycled.
ADVANTAGE: Minimizes erosion of the ball and seat,
extending valve life.
Interchangeable balls and seats.
ADVANTAGE: Reduces spare parts (inventory).
Bubble tight sealing (Class VI standard acc. to API 598).
ADVANTAGE: Superior protection against downstream
leakage and bi-directional sealing is achieved.
Simple and quick repair time (re-lapping is not necessary).
ADVANTAGE: Minimizes cost and maintenance downtime.
MSBV
Features
Most MSBV manufacturers are able to offer:
Match lapping: specifically lapping one ball to one seat
Coatings for increased hardness
Sediment scraping
Class V sealing standard (extra cost for Class VI)

Design Features
Competitive lapping procedures are not as precise as
Krombach valve
Competitors Match Lapping
PROBLEM:
When the valve is cycled, this precise fit is not
maintained. This can lead to an increase in friction and
wear on the ball and the seat.
Competitor valve lapped in closed position.
When cycled, lapped sections no longer touch.
PROBLEM:
The ball and seat are not interchangeable. Any repairs
call for complete re-lapping, which is time consuming
and tedious.
Often, a competitor will lap a ball to a seat in the valve
closed position. Therefore, the most precise fit is only
achieved when the valve is in this closed position.
Each ball and seat set are specifically match lapped to each
other.
Bi-directional Sealing
Krombach self-adjusting seat design:
Creates a tight seal in either direction through
special spring elements without a separate
mechanism to generate differential pressure.
Compensates for thermal expansion.
Minimizes dimensional tolerances.
Extends valve life.
Competitors have uni-directional flow as standard design,
limiting their capability for broad use.
Must use two ball valves (and two actuators) when
isolation is required from both the upstream and
downstream directions.
MSBV
Features
ADVANTAGES:
Process flexibility
Ease of installation
When competitors offer bi-directional sealing
options, there is still a preferred flow direction.

Cavity Pressure Relief
Increased cavity pressure, if not
relieved, can result in pressure overload
of the valve body, leading to external
emissions.
Cavity pressure relief makes the
Krombach MSBV bi-directional and fire
safe.
Self relieving design (Krombach) vs.
bore hole design (competitor)
Some competitors address cavity
pressure with a bore hole, which
can be clogged by certain types of
media causing pressure overload.
ADVANTAGE:
Allows release of excessive cavity
pressure, preventing external emissions.
MSBV
Features
Krombach MSBVs have cavity
pressure relief built into the design.
Stem in packing area has super fine roller burnished
surface.
Less friction during actuation
Less wear on packing gaskets
Prevents external emissions
Most competitors achieve acceptable fugitive emissions
ratings; the Krombach technique gives less wear and
longer life of packing (longer life of valve).

ADVANTAGES:
Fugitive emission safe (TA-Luft, EPA

Reduced wear, longer life of packing.
