Early and Middle childhood stage of development is a

time of discovery and wonderment. Working as a social

worker or counselor give me a unique opportunity to help
guide them through this growing process. In early
childhood development they are just getting to understand
their environment and gaining some control of it . Middle
childhood is a very delicate stage of development for its a
point where children are coming into their own finding
who they are and trying to set their place in their world.
This is a time when they will need the most guidance and
my skill will help them through this stage of development.
The five ecological system theory developed by famed
psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner states that we all are
influenced by the different types of environment we encounter
throughout our lives. The one environment that will greatly
impact your students is the Mesosytem. Bronfenbrenner stated
that the mesosytem involves the relationship between the
micosystem that we each go through in our life time. It breaks it
down to that your Childs family experience is closely related to
your Childs school experience. When parents, teachers and
support staff work as a team to create a positive environment it
helps your child to become well rounded which will resonate
both at home and in the classroom. Bronfenbrenner also states
that this ecological system helps us as parent and teaching staff
to understand how our children behave in the presence of their
family, in their school environment and their community.

Home Conditions
We support family by ensuring the home condition support learners.

1. Each grade level has a lending library
2. low cost access to services such as the internet.

Family Night.
This is a night families come to the school and embrace their heritage
and culture.
1. Have a family tree exhibit.
2. classroom are set up to represent the region from which many
families are from. This will include cuisine, native dress, and cultural
traditions from their native countries.
When parents and teacher are able to effectively
communicate the childs needs, progress and achievements with
one another it will ensure a successful student.

Types of communication:
Daily log books - This allows for a daily (if needed) communication with parent
and teacher.
Link home to school (school web site)- this is done by giving parents access to
their student grade and progress via the internet. Each family will have a pass code
that will allow them to link up to the school database and access their child teacher
grade book . This help parent see how their student is doing and if there needs to be
any intervention.
Parent teacher conferences- Have at least 2 parent teacher conferences yearly
(one per semester) this allows parent and teacher to meet face to face and get a one
one understanding of the student and address any concerns , progress and
achievements. Allow for interpreter for those parents who do not speak English.
When students see their parents and extended family
actively involved in their education such as volunteering in
the classroom or in school activities they tend to be better
students.

Provide ample opportunities for parents to actively
participate in school functions.
Set-up classroom with a volunteer sheet - This allows parents to
come in at their convenience . When parents are not able to be their physically it allows them to
participate by offering other services such as snacks and classroom supplies.
Learning at home is a continuation of what is being
taught t school. When parents participate in the learning
process it shows the student that parent are committed to
them and their learning which in turn develops a better
student.
Techniques for home learning
Reading daily for at least 30 minutes.
Homework packs- These are homework sheets that are sent home to reinforce
what is being taught in class daily. Have instruction in both English and Spanish
Offer on line study guides for parents- This will ensure that the parents are
able to help their student with information that maybe new to them that is offered in the house
hold native language .

As parents and teachers we are giving the task to make decision
for young people on the daily basis. As a parent the decision they
make will affect their children for the rest of their lives. As a teacher
the decisions that are made in the class will also have a great impact
on who they will become. When parents and teachers working
together in the decision making process when it comes to the
students education the student benefits both in the classroom and in
the home.
Teacher and parents collaborating on curriculum- This allows for both parent
and teacher to have a hand in the education of the student. Incorporate instruction in multiple
languages.

Inviting parents to attend monthly school board meetings


Family , school and community are what shapes children.
When the community plays a role in the education of it young
the community benefits greatly.

Family, Schools & Community Collaboration

The community center The community center offer a place where family can
come and spend quality time together. The community center will also offer the
school the opportunity for family to have access to addition educational help by
offering after school tutoring, offering parents education resources such as in English
classes, home buying and financing .
Different businesses offering incentives to student and family- Local
businesses offering incentives such as coupons for report cards. Offer family nigh
discounts. Also adopt local schools and help curve the cost to schools and parents on
classroom and school supplies.
