Final Performance Iphigenia in Aulis

This unit was about the Greeks and how they developed drama. In the beginning we
took notes on a PowerPoint that Ms. Lue had prepared about Greek drama. We learnt
about the The golden age of Ancient Greek Theatre The origins of Drama. The
Greeks used amphitheaters to perform in.

We learnt about Greek genres of drama Comedy and Tragedy.

Our final performance for this unit was performing a Greek play in a group. My group
was Lucas, Natalia, Luiza, Fadia, Owen, Joao, Dhilen, Olivia, Megan and I. We
performed the play called, Iphigenia in Aulis By Euripides. I was Iphigenia the princess
daughter of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon who later sacrifices herself for Greece.
In the first lesson we allocated roles for each member and read through our play
together. I think we had about 3 lessons to practice. In that first lesson where we read
through the play there was a lot of argument regarding roles and concentration when
reading. During rehearsals not everyone was always present; I dont think we
cooperated well as a team during rehearsals we didnt focus to actually work. We also
didnt make plans to rehearse after school but that wouldve been hard because
everyones schedule varies after school. I didnt reflect after each rehearsal but I did
mentally reflect and make notes for next time.
Before our dress rehearsal which was on May 2
nd
2014, I made Q cards for me to use
when performing. I mostly memorized my lines but sometimes I just need that
reassurance. I brought my full costume on both the dress rehearsal and performance.
Most people in my group didnt remember especially at the dress rehearsal. In our
dress rehearsal the other group and Ms. Lue watched our play to give us some
constructive criticism. Ms. Lue advised me to project my voice more, use the space on
stage, make gestures, use emotion, show my character, and show my passion and no
blocking.
Our final performance I think was a disaster. I said 2 of my lines at the wrong times, the
chorus mixed up with their queues, most people had scripts on stage, and our stage
area was wet so it was hard to use the full stage, we forgot stage directions, and we
didnt communicate well as a group backstage.
There is definitely lots of room for improvement. I am really disappointed in myself and
my group. We shouldve used our rehearsal times more wisely; we shouldve worked as
a team.
If we had another chance to do this I think the main thing we wouldve had to focus on
is PREPERATION.
