Waverley is situated in a pivotal geographic location, with highly visited world famous

Salary Range: $48,700 to $56,050 gross p.a. plus superannuation

Here is an exciting opportunity to join Waverley Councils Parks & Open Space
Operations Division.

The successful applicant will be able to practice their trade within the Parks &
Gardens of Waverley.

This is a full time position working a 38-hour week, with a 9-day fortnight.

To be considered for this role you will need:

TAFE Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent.
WHS General Induction for Construction Work Certificate;
Excellent communication skills, and
The ability to work in a team as well as independently.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential Criteria

NSW School certificate or equivalent.
TAFE Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent.
Work Health & Safety General Induction for Construction Work Certificate.
Demonstrated skills in maintenance gardening
Experience in the proper and safe use and maintenance of mowers and
brushcutters.
Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
A positive, professional and co-operative approach to working with others.
Ability to communicate with the public in a courteous and helpful manner.
A strong commitment to delivering quality customer service.
Evidence of commitment to and understanding of the principles of Work
Health & Safety, Risk Management & Environmental Services, Equal
Employment Opportunity and Ethical Conduct.


Desirable Criteria

Current MR drivers licence.
Experience in planning and organising a daily team work routine.
Ability to supervise and train a work team, and people on apprenticeship,
work experience or community employment programs.
Knowledge of use and application of chemicals.
Current First Aid Certificate.

The Gardener is responsible for:

Maintaining and preserving Councils parks, gardens and reserves; and
Maintaining and operating Council plant in a safe and efficient manner.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBITLITIES AND DUTIES OF THE POSITION
1. Customer Service

To provide information to customers and assist with routine service problems.
To be able to recognise when a situation may be difficult and needs to be
referred to immediate supervisor, with all relevant information.


2. Financial and Asset Management

Identify opportunities to minimise costs and risks to Council.
No budgetary control; however, job requires knowledge of budget constraints.
To be aware of the cost implications of ones actions within own work area.
Complete vehicle maintenance checklist daily.
Complete maintenance checklists as required.

3. Internal Processes

Adhere to all terms and conditions of employment.
Complete all required timesheets and leave forms accurately and on time.
Comply with Councils policies and requirements on Work Health & Safety,
Equal Employment Opportunity, Risk Management, Environmental
Protection, Clothing/equipment and Ethical Conduct.

4. People and Organisational Development

Perform all work competently and efficiently.

5. General

Maintain gardens, trees and turf areas in Councils parks and reserves.
Perform other horticultural and organisational tasks as required.

Perform any other duties that may be reasonably determined from time to
time by the Director.
Any other duties that may be reasonably determined from time to time by the
Parks Operations Supervisor or Divisional Manager.





SPECIFIC SAFETY OBLIGATIONS OF THE POSITION

Complying with the requirements of Waverley Council WHS Management
System.
Following all requirements imposed by Local, State and Federal Work Health
and Safety and Workers Compensation Legislation.
Completing any task related pre-operational equipment checklists as
instructed.
Reporting all incidents, hazards and injuries to your direct manager
immediately.
When requested assisting the Manager/Supervisor and other workers in the
risk assessment of workplace hazards.
Where personnel protective equipment is required to be worn, wearing as
requested.
Participating in all WHS training and emergency evacuation drills as
requested.
Ensuring their work area is clean and tidy.
Participating in the implementation of the annual WHS Plan.
Ensuring WHS KPIs are included in all Workplans.


MANUAL HANDLING INVOLVED IN THE POSITION
To be aware of appropriate procedures in relation to safe manual handling
techniques when undertaking work tasks, including:

Correct techniques for activities such as lifting, digging, planting and weeding,
topdressing, cleaning, etc.
Use of correct postures, harnesses, etc. while using machinery or equipment
such as mowers, brushcutters, etc.
Appropriate variation of duties throughout the day.
Keeping work area organised and tidy.
Safe and correct use, storage and transportation of chemicals.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RECORDS IN THE POSITION
Comply with Councils Records Management Policy including:

Ensure creation of appropriate records in Councils records management
system;
Proper custodianship of records to ensure against loss, removal or
destruction.
