TEQUATIC
PLUS ne
particle lter into their Moving Bed BioReactor
(MBBR) Packaged Wastewater Treatment Plant
technology for the Iraqi MoH. The TEQUATIC PLUS
lter was selected over conventional multi-media
ltration based on the products proven success
in ltering secondary efuent from two wastewater
treatment plants in California, various Encotech
eld trials, and the benets described below.
VALUE
The TEQUATIC
PLUS ne
particle lter into its MBBR system as a post-ltration step, citing several
advantages over multi-media ltration. For example, EEC USA found that the
product will help simplify their system in ways that make it more compact,
reducing their post-ltration footprint by at least 50%. This, in turn, simplies
logistics by enabling them to ship the entire Wastewater Treatment Plant to a
hospital in one ISO container versus two.

** Nephelometric turbidity units
Such benets, combined with the continuous cleaning
capability of the TEQUATIC PLUS lter, will help minimize
maintenance, maximize uptime and lower overall project costs.
Other benets such as >99% water recovery, no cleaning
cycles, absolute levels of ltration and simple control
systems also contributed to EEC USAs decision.
Conguration of the TEQUATIC PLUS lter into the existing
MBBR system design has been seamless.
As shown in Figure 1 below, the hospital wastewater is
equalized prior to treatment in the MBBR. The MBBR
aerobically processes the wastewater, which then passes
through an integrated clarier.
The treated water is staged in a Filter Feed Tank for delivery to
the TEQUATIC PLUS lter, which can reduce the turbidity to
<5 NTU, enabling efcient and effective UV disinfection prior
to discharge all as part of a single, skid-mounted plant.
Periodically, the TEQUATIC PLUS lter purges accumulated
solids from the unit to the sludge holding tank for reprocessing
or disposal. With a water recovery rate that is generally >99%,
disposal volumes from the TEQUATIC PLUS lter and overall
solids handling costs are low.

Multiple Installations
Four of the Iraqi hospitals will receive a Packaged
Wastewater Treatment Plant each tted with two TEQUATIC
PLUS F-50 lters producing up to 26,000 gallons of treated
water per day. The fth hospital will have a Packaged
Wastewater Treatment Plant tted with a TEQUATIC PLUS
F-75 lter capable of producing up to 65,000 gallons per day.
EEC USA is partnering with a local contractor to implement
the systems in a variety of current and future projects across
the region.
