SCORING, SCHEDULING & ADVANCEMENT
No band applicant will be allowed to vote on any of the participating bands.
Order of performance at the competition will be determined by random draw at 5:00pm on the
night of each round. Time requests will be considered, but no time slots are guaranteed, and if
you enter, you need to be available at any time. All bands/artists must be present on the day of
their competition at 5:00pm at New Life Community Church.
Each band/artist will be allotted 45 minutes to setup, play, and tear down. This time includes a
basic sound check. Failure to setup, play, and tear down within the allotted time will result in
disqualification. No exceptions. Each band/artist must be present in the staging area, equipment
in hand, 30 minutes prior to their showtime.
A “sound check” includes ensuring that all instruments are plugged in and operating correctly. It
is the responsibility of the band/artist to cooperate with the sound engineer for the mix. If the
band chooses to spend extra time perfecting their mix, this time is deducted from their
performance time. In other words, the 45 minute time slot will not be extended for the
band/artist’s sound preference.
A maximum of one cover song will be allowed during each performance.
A Velocity panel of judges will be present for each round to determine the winners of each
category and those who qualify for the final round. They will judge the bands/artists on the
following categories:
1. Crowd presence/participation
2. Musicality (song quality and originality)
3. Stage performance
4. Support of other bands/artists (encouragement earns points, discouragement and trash
talk will count against one’s score)
5. Sound volume and clarity
6. Appearance
7. Stage Attitude and Enthusiasm
8. Time Management
9. Band/artist Synchronization
10. Cooperation with contest officials
In the case of a tie in score, ties will be broken by the top overall score in the first three
categories. If there is still a tie, the tie will be broken by a crowd vote.
The winner will be announced immediately after the votes have been calculated.
