Principals Message:
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the entire cast and crew of Cinderella Kids. Under the guidance of Mlle. Leclerc and Mme. Aikman,
close to seventy students have been working very hard at rehearsals and memorizing lines, in preparation for their big performances on Monday, May
5th (10:00am and 12:30pm) and Tuesday, May 6th (5:30 pm and 7:00pm). A big thank you also goes out to the behind the scenes staff members
and parent volunteers, who have coordinated many other aspects of the production, from ticket sales to set design!

Thank you to all students and their families who supported this years spring chocolate bar fundraising campaign. We were very successful in raising
funds, which will help support technology initiatives in our school. The top overall seller was Ethan G., who earned an iPad mini for his efforts. Morgan
G. (second place) won the iPod Nano, and Chase C. (third place) won the bicycle.

On Thursday, May 8th at 1:40, we will be holding a Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony in the learning common. At Viscount, we are very fortunate to
have many volunteers who help make our school the wonderful place that it is. On behalf of the entire school community at Viscount, thank you!

School Council Update:

Our next School Council meeting will be held on Monday, June 9th at 6:00pm in the Learning Common (formerly our school library). All are
welcome to attend!

Earlier in the year, our School Council was successful at securing a Metro Grant. As a result, on Tuesday, June 10th, some of our junior students will
be taking part in workshops, which will involve learning about nutrition and food preparation. These students will then be asked to share their learning
(and the results) with the rest of the school!
The staff and students at Viscount would like to thank our School Council for their recent purchase of new, reversible athletic uniforms. Go Cougars!

Kindergarten Registration for September 2014 and Welcome to Kindergarten:
Our Welcome to Kindergarten evening is scheduled for Thursday, May 29th from 6:00-7:30pm in the gym. This evening is intended for incoming
JK/SK students, starting in September, 2014, and will feature a number of home and school-based activities, community partner connections, and
once again, we will be featuring school bus rides for students and their parents/guardians.
Just a reminder: Kindergarten registration is on-going. Please contact the school at 613-932-4131, or access the pre-registration link at: http://
www.surveymonkey.com/s/Registration_2014-2015_School_Year. Please be aware that the following documentation is mandatory, before the start of
school in the fall: 1) proof of age (e.g. birth or baptismal certificate), 2) immunization record.

School Travel Planning:
Did you know...
since 1960, the rate of children walking/biking to school has decreased from close to 60% to less than 30%?
one car in five travels less than one kilometre during the morning commute to school?
over the past 30 years, obesity rates have tripled, and one in four children/youth are either overweight or obese?
The correlation between less-active lifestyles and childhood obesity is undeniable! Our school is proud to be a pilot site for The School Travel Planning
Program, which promotes healthy, active lifestyles, beginning with encouraging students and their families to consider alternate, active ways of getting
to school, such as walking, biking, rollerblading, and skateboarding.

EQAO Provincial Testing
Parents and guardians of students in grade 3 and 6 are reminded that this years EQAO testing will take place between May 26th -June 6th. In order
to promote student success, it is very helpful if parents and guardians avoid any planned absences (e.g. appointments) during
the testing period.
Athletics:
Our next interscholastic sport will be volleyball. Our regional tournament will be held on Thursday, May 8th at CCVS. Three
pitch will be held in early-June. Good luck to all of our student athletes!

Senior Kindergarten and Grade 6 Graduation Ceremonies:
This years graduation ceremonies will take place on Monday, June 23rd at 9:30am (senior kindergarten) and 12:00pm (grade 6).
