M y Experien ce in R io

I was sent to Rio for work in 2014 during Carnival time. I ended up getting a ticket to
the Samba arade! which was great because I had onl" personall" seen the part" on
#$ and I found it prett" good to be there and be part of it. eople from ever" corner of
the world can be found there % &ermans! 'rgentinians! South 'fricans! 'rabs and
Chinese. 'll of them laughing and having fun together with the locals. #he parades are
thematic and each Samba School will present a theme where the" tell a stor" or
remember a historic event through the music and the costumes! it is ama(ing.

Carnival in Rio is a huge celebration -lled with .o" and beautiful people and the
Samba arade is not the onl" thing that will cheer the crowd up. #here are also
something locals call /+locos0 where people get together and walk around the cit"
dancing and part"ing! it is reall" fun and "ou should de-nitel" tr". I went out in the
streets and there was a sign where "ou could read /1r2uestra $oadora0 I got closer
and asked this short gu" wearing a pirate costume what was happening there. 3e told
me it was a bloco and the" were about to start. #he name was prett" funn" because it
means 45l"ing 1rchestra6 so I decided to stick with them. #he music started and I
began to dance with it7 I had never danced Samba in m" whole life! but it was
impossible to stop. I6ve seen people from all ages there! from children to elders. #he
bloco started at 10 a.m. and ended at 8 p.m and I was e,hausted but reall" happ" and
satis-ed. It was one of the best e,periences ever7 eople in the streets are smiling all
the time with e,citing bright looks in their e"es. It is impossible to describe the
atmosphere and the enthusiasm it brings. #he streets are colorful and alive and it
feels the part" never ends.

If "ou are going to Rio to attend the Carnival art"! "ou also want to visit Christ the
Redeemer! Sugar 9oaf and Copacabana and Ipanema +eaches since Rio is an
e,tremel" hot cit". 1ne of m" +ra(ilian friends gave me some tips to avoid problems
while in the cit"*
1. 5irst! do not leave the hotel with a lot of mone" or e,pensive e2uipment as the
cit" is crowded at this season and there are pickpockets in the middle of the
crowd.
2. 'lso! alwa"s carr" a bottle of water. :ith all the dancing and walking "ou will
get thirst" and sometimes the place is so crowded "ou can6t even -nd a vendor.
3. ;ver"thing should be booked in advance. #rust me! it will avoid unnecessar"
nuisance.
4. I wouldn6t recommend "ou to use the buses either as the cit" is prett" big and is
common to get lost. If "ou need to go somewhere! go b" metro or call a cab!
the" are ever"where.
