I seek refuge in Allah from the rejected Shaitan.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Verily, all thanks and praise are due to Allah, from whom we seek His help, forgiveness and guidance.
We seek refuge in Allah from whatever evil our hearts conceal and from the consequences of our evil
deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever Allah leaves astray none can
guide. And I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah - without any partner, and
that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
To proceed-
Indeed, the most truthful speech is the Book of Allah, the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad,
may Allahs peace and blessings be upon Him, and the worst of affairs are the newly invented matters.
Every newly invented matter is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and
every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

Allah says:

[Nahnu naqussu alayka ahsanalqasasi bima awhayna ilayka hathaal qur-ana wa-in kunta min qablihi lamina
alghafileen]
We relate unto you (Oh Muhammad) the best of stories through our revelations unto you of this Quran,
and before this you were among those who were unaware of it
[Yusuf-12:3]

It is from Allah. Allah is the one who is revealing this to Muhammad and to this Ummah. Allah
says

.We relate unto you the best of stories. These are the best of
stories, because they are dealing with the best of creation.

Some of the benefits of talking about the Anbiyaa:

1: Because Rasulullah was commanded to do so. Allah says:

[faqsusilqasasa]
So relate the stories
[Al-Araf-7:176]

Its a command from Allah given to Rasullillah that he must- Allah is commanding him that he
must narrate these stories unto the ummah. So it becomes a duty upon us to relate these stories, it
becomes mandatory on us to convey the message of the anbiyaa of Allah and their stories. So number
one- we are doing this as an ibadah of Allah , to fulfil a commandment of Allah.

2:

[laallahum yatafakkaroon]
Perhaps they may reflect
[Al-Araf-7:176]

Relate and convey to them the stories- why? So that they may reflect.

[laallahum
yatafakkaroon]. So they may contemplate

[atafakkar]. These stories are not to entertain us. These

stories are for us to derive lessons and reflect, and to contemplate, and to think aboutto deeply reflect
on them. That is what we need to do.

3: Another reason why its extremely important to study the stories of the anbiyaa of Allah ; Allah
says:

[Ulaa-ikallatheena hadAllahu fabihudahumuqtadih]
They are those whom Allah has guided, so follow their guidance
[Al-Anaam-6:90]

They are the ones who are guided, and Allah is instructing Rasulullah to follow them- to follow their
guidance, because they are the best.
We need to have role-models. It is very important for the human being to have a role model, especially in
the early stages of our lives. You find that every human being has role models- if they are not good, they
are going to be bad. That is our make-up as human beings. We must have some role models; we must
have some people whom we look up to. If we are not going to provide our children and our youth with the
role models of the anbiyaa and the role model of Rasulullah and the role models of the sahaba, they are
going to find role models somewhere else- because human beings cannot live without role models. And
Allah is telling Muhammad that he must follow the way of the anbiyaa of Allah . If this
instruction was given to Rasulullah , then what should we do? :

[fabihudahumuqtadih]
Allah is commanding Rasulullah : Follow their way. So we need to study the lives of the anbiyaa of
Allah so that they can become our role-models.

4: To love them. Al mahabba. If we do not know someone we cannot love them. We all claim that we
love the anbiyaa of Allah. But if we dont know the details of their lives, we dont know what they went
through, how could we have respect for them?
Abu Dharr came to Rasulullah and asked him a question. What is the total number of anbiyaa?
Rasulullah said- (what is the number of the anbiyaa?)- A hundred and twenty thousand and the
messengers among them are three hundred and fifteen. So the anbiyaa of Allah are a hundred and
twenty thousand and the messengers alrusul are three hundred and fifteen. Im translating nabi as
prophet, and rasul as messenger.
So there are two different things; Nabi and Rasul. Nabi, the plural of it is anbiyaa; rasul, the plural of it
is rusul. So what is the difference between the nabi and the rasul? What is the difference between the
prophet and the messenger? There are a few opinions of the ulama in this. One of them is that the rasul is
the nabi who is given a law. But the nabi who is not a rasul is following the law of another rasul- so every
rasul is a nabi, but not every nabi is a rasul. Every prophet is not a messenger, but every messenger is a
prophet. If a prophet is given a new law then he becomes a rasul and a nabi. If he is not given a new law,
then he is a nabi only, a prophet.
An example of that to make it a little bit clearer:
Musa is a rasul- why? Because he was given the Tawrah. But Harun is not a rasul. Harun is a
nabi- why? Because he is following the law of his brother. Harun is following the law of Musa. This is
one difference the ulama give between nabi and rasul.
