Call for Paper/Panel Proposals for the 2015 ISA Conference

This is a call for papers/panels for the Intelligence Studies Section (ISS) at the 56
th
annual
International Studies Association (ISA) convention, held in New Orleans, LA on 18-21 February
2015. The overall theme for the conference is: Global IR and Regional Worlds: A New Agenda for
International Studies. Please note that the deadline for submission of paper and panel proposals is 1

The Intelligence Studies Section, one of 28 sections within ISA, is a primary venue for presenting
new intelligence studies research and scholarship. What distinguishes ISS from other sections at ISA
(such as the International Security Studies Section or the Foreign Policy Analysis Section) is its focus
on the study of intelligence in all its forms, functions and activities. The full list of ISA sections and

Proposals for intelligence-related papers or panels for ISA 2015 can cover any aspect of the debates
and issues within contemporary intelligence studies. A wide range of topics and issues are covered
each year, as illustrated through the papers presented at ISA in 2014:

As 2015 is the 30
th
anniversary of the creation of the Intelligence Studies Section, proposals which
address the development of intelligence studies as a field and developing academic discipline
where we were, where we are, and where we are going-- are especially encouraged, to include
national perspectives both inside and outside the Anglosphere as well as those which address
particular segments of the intelligence studies domain (collection, analysis, counterintelligence,
covert action, etc). Additional topics for panels include "ODNI after 10 Years: the Good, the Bad,
and the Ugly or Global Health, Medicine and Intelligence Studies.

To submit a paper or panel proposal, you will need to write a short description/abstract of the paper
you intend to submit or panel you would like to put together. Panel proposals should contain 5 paper
proposals linked together as a theme. Then submit the proposal by following the instructions on the

If you have multiple projects that you are working on, please submit two proposals so that the ISS
program chairs can find the best fit for your work on the program. Proposals from working
practitioners and MA/PhD students are encouraged. Be sure to submit any proposals to the best fit
Section as first choicethat will increase its chances of being accepted. If you choose to join ISA as
a member, you can also join the Intelligence Studies Section by adding a Section membership for
$5/year (or $3/year for students).
