Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting and Analytics Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Architecture

Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Architecture

Figure 1 shows a high-level mapping of the Business Intelligence (BI) architecture in Oracle Sales Cloud. The source data from the transactional database is abstracted by way of a BI view or a BI view object in the Oracle Cloud service. The data is then fed into the BI layer on the Semantic Model. The various BI applications (such as Territory Management and Sales Prediction Engine) and the prebuilt reports and dashboards then reference the BI model.

Figure 1.

Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Architecture

Analytics are available throughout Oracle Sales Cloud as embedded analytics and also in a standalone flavor by way of the transactional work areas. Administrators can create custom reports in either BI Answers or BI Publisher. BI Composer is the tool for users to do their own self-service report creation. For more information about these tools, see Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting Tools on page 12. The access points for reports are by way of the embedded analytics on work area pages as well as the Reports and Analytics pane and the Reports and Analytics work area. For more information about the Reports and Analytics pane, see About the Reports and Analytics Pane in Oracle Fusion Applications on page 8. For more information about the Reports and Analytics work area, see About the Reports and Analytics Work Area in Oracle Cloud on page 10.

Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting and Analytics Overview Release 13.2

Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting and Analytics About the Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Presentation Catalog

About the Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Presentation Catalog

The Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Presentation Catalog (BI Catalog) stores business intelligence objects and provides an interface where you can create, access, and manage objects, and perform specific object-based tasks (for example, export, print, and edit). The catalog is organized into folders that are either shared or personal. If Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (Oracle BI EE) is integrated with other Oracle applications, then the objects that are created within those applications are also stored within the catalog. For example, if Oracle BI Publisher is integrated with Oracle BI EE, data models, reports, style templates, and subtemplates are also stored in and accessible from the catalog.

About Business Intelligence (BI) Analyses in Oracle Sales Cloud

Oracle Sales Cloud applications consist of standard dashboards and reports that you can use to address your day-to-day operations. These applications include standard analytics for a variety of business needs, including sales, sales forecasting, marketing, contracts, quota management, territory management, partner relationship management, incentive compensation, and so on. Predefined dashboards and reports are available for each functional area, and the variety continues to grow. For more information about the predefined dashboards and reports, see Listing Predefined Reports in Oracle Sales Cloud on page 13. NOTE: The functional areas in Oracle Sales Cloud continue to evolve; therefore, the content in this document is subject to change. You view and edit Business Intelligence (BI) analyses and dashboards using the Reports and Analytics pane. Any changes you make to existing reports are reflected wherever else the analysis or dashboard is used in Oracle Fusion Applications, unless you are working on a report in the My Folder area or saving a copy of an edited report in that area. For more information about the Reports and Analytics pane, see About the Reports and Analytics Pane in Oracle Fusion Applications on page 8. For more information about using BI analyses and dashboards, see Oracle Fusion Applications Common User Guide available in Oracle Fusion Applications Help and Oracle Technology Network at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/index.html

Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher Reports

In the Reports and Analytics pane, you can view the latest submission of Oracle BI Publisher reports. If the report is registered as a process, then you can also schedule it to run as a process with specified parameters at specified times. You can manage these submissions as you would any other process. For more information about processes, see Oracle Fusion Applications Help. To navigate to Oracle BI Publisher to customize reports and perform other tasks, access the BI Catalog, for example from the Reports and Analytics toolbar. Ask your administrator if you need specific reports to be registered as processes for submission in the Reports and Analytics work area.

Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting and Analytics Overview Release 13.2

Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting and Analytics About Using Embedded Analytics in Oracle Sales Cloud

About Using Embedded Analytics in Oracle Sales Cloud

Oracle Sales Cloud provides several embedded reports and dashboards that use prebuilt best practice metrics. These reports and dashboards are integrated with the transitional business flows so that you can analyze and view data on the same page where you perform your business operations. Many reports are also actionable, that is, they have prebuilt contextual actions for rapid action. The Sales Dashboard, as shown in Figure 5, is an example of embedded analytics. The Sales Dashboard can help you (or a sales manager) identify the opportunities in your pipeline and see which of those opportunities are due to close soon, to view appointments scheduled for the day, and other related sales information.

Figure 5.

Sample Sales Dashboard in Oracle Sales Cloud

In the sample Sales Dashboard shown in Figure 5, a sales manager is viewing his pipeline report, opportunity watch, key contacts, and so on. The sales manager can drill down on a band on the pipeline funnel report to view the opportunities associated with that particular sales stage. Or, the sales manager might want to perform follow up actions, such as send e-mail to a salesperson or owner of the opportunity, or add a note to the opportunity. These actions are done within the context of the particular report and the particular opportunity currently viewed. The intent of actionable items is to allow you to perform a followup activity on a particular exception that you notice as part of the report.

Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting and Analytics Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting Tools

Dashboards allow you to add new tabs and content, change the page layout, or even personalize it. To personalize a dashboard, you edit the page, then drag and drop the content from a catalog to include on the dashboard page. Not only can you admit reports as part of a dashboard, you can include reports on other pages such as a transactional page or a work area page. You can also include metrics as part of the functional form. Figure 6 shows an example of related cube metrics for a territory along with a graphical representation of the data in a specialized UI format.

Figure 6.

Oracle Sales Cloud Reporting Tools

The Oracle Sales Cloud reporting tools for creating custom reports include: BI Composer. BI Composer is a Web-based report wizard available for both On Demand and On Premise deployments. This tool is designed for novice users. It guides you through the steps needed to create a report, and at the end of the flow, you can save the report to the Oracle Business Intelligence Presentation Catalog (BI Catalog). You can launch BI Composer from either the Reports and Analytics pane or the Reports and Analytics work area. BI Answers. BI Answers is a report creation tool that is designed for both novice and experienced users. This tool allows users to create both simple and complex reports that might include formulas, compound layouts, and joining of multiple subject areas. You can also create custom dashboards and scorecards using this tool. BI Publisher. BI Publisher is a WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) tool that is used for creating production-quality reports, such as pay slips, invoices, agreements, and so on. This tool is designed for administrators or power users to create data model reports, subtemplates, and style templates. Oracle Sales Cloud includes predefined BI Publisher templates for several functional areas. For more information about predefined templates, see Listing Predefined Reports in Oracle Sales Cloud on page 13. For more information about using BI Publisher, see the documentation suite available on Oracle Technology Network at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/documentation/index.html.
