Assignment/Activity Title Cinematic Analysis #2 SkillMedia

Year Freshman Portfolio Category Media and Communications

This assignment is important to include in my portfolio because it showed remarkable improvement in my ability to analyze films. Before this assignment the two assignments that involved cinematic analysis were the Quiz Show summary and the Cinematic Analysis #1. I got a C on both those assignments. But on Cinematic Analysis #2, in which I analyzed There Will Be Blood, I got an A. This is because I used a different process to complete the assignment. Because I did it over Thanksgiving break and I was traveling for Thanksgiving I did most of the writing on the plane. But I doubt thats what caused the improvement. What caused the improvement was that I watched the movie right before I got on the plane. So, when I wrote the Cinematic Analysis it was fresh in my mind unlike last Cinematic Analysis where I wrote the paper a week after I watched the movie. This allowed me to explore every aspect of the in detail unlike the first Cinematic Analysis in which I wrote about what little I could remember. This caused to write a paper with alot of words, but little substance. If I could do the assignment over again I would choose to analyze cinematic techniques instead of symbols and motifs for part C. Although the film had many interesting symbols and metaphors, the cinematography and look of the film was beautiful and added so much to the film. In hindsight I realize how remarkable the cinematography of the film is and its affect on the story. As someone who is fascinated by cinematographic techniques There Will Be Bloods cinematography would be a joy to analyze.
