Electrical Engineering Specialist, Supervisor

Act as the supervisor of the Network Mapping group that creates, prepares, maintains and revises the maps, records and asset information data sets of the NetGIS (Network Geographic Information System), used to support the planning, design, construction, ope ration and maintenance of Seattle City Lights Networked Distribution System. This position will report to the GIS Manager. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide support to engineers and crews in using maps and related records. Provide status reports to the GIS Manager as required. Exhibit professional behavior in interactions with other City employees and the public; work as a team member to maintain a respectful, courteous work environment. Supervises the performance of complex computer-aided drafting and preparation of maps, plans, revisions, schematics and drawings of the electrical features of varied facilities such as distribution, transmission and street lighting systems. Supervises the preparation of work orders, work instructions, and the specification of construction standards and materials and estimates of hours and costs. Supervises the preparation of specifications and requisitions for procuring equipment, services and materials; writing of letters and memoranda required to initiate orders or change orders to the suppliers; recommendation of purchase following evaluation of bids; tracing of material and equipment delays; inspection of goods upon receipt; billing for materials and equipment; and negotiation of problems of error and deficiency with manufacturers or suppliers. Supervises the preparation of circuit designs and related work required to improve or add to existing facilities. $40.66 - $45.51 Hourly Seattle Municipal Tower, 700 5th Ave., Seattle, Washington Classified Civil Service, Regular, Full-Time Day Seattle City Light PTE, Local 17 - Professionals 05/20/14 04:00 PM Pacific Time

Performs field visits to work sites to check progress, verify compliance with instructions, and respond to inquiries and problems from crews and contractors. Supervises the locating and revising of all elementary, connection and arrangement drawings to document changes. Supervises the completion of map work orders, conversion work orders and map corrections. Supervises the reproduction of section maps, feeder maps or other documents needed for appropriate project. Supervises the revision and updating of transformer load reports or other management information reports. Supervises the preparation, maintenance, and revision of records, maps, programs and schedules. Attends pre-construction conferences to determine project schedules and requirements. Answers questions from departmental personnel concerning transformer and pole load reports, work orders, distribution maps and consultation documents. Assists and reviews work of subordinates. Provides training as required. Participates in the selection, hiring and performance appraisal of subordinates, and performs other personnel/administrative tasks. Consults and coordinates with manufacturers to select and order material or equipment for projects. Reviews agreements with consultants and other cooperating agencies. Supervises the review of proposals for new electrical engineering services and the determination of type and size of installation for electrical service. Acts as interdivisional liaison for coordinating the various phases of designing, planning and preparation of project details. Serves on committees concerned with standardization and improvement of specifications, materials, methods and procedures. Performs other related duties of comparable level/type as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Experience/Education: Three years experience equivalent to an Associate Electrical Engineering Specialist and Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work). Certification/License: Current Washington State drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Desired Qualifications: Strong supervisor and leadership skills, with a team player attitude and the ability manage multiple priorities. Three or more years of work with electrical distribution systems. Experience working within a public utility. Experience with AutoCAD Map, ArcGIS, and knowledge of major computer database application programs. Strong customer service and communication skills.
