Chapter 11 1. We get water from taps in our houses. And this water in our taps comes from streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, and seas.
11

2. We also get water from rain. Rain is the main source of water. When it rains, water gets stored under the ground. Rain water is the purest form of water 3. This water can be used by digging wells. Usage of Water 1. We use water for drinking, cooking, water plants and washing clothes etc. Water is important to us. We must save it. To save water we can take care of many things like: 2. We should not keep water running through the tap while we brush our teeth. 3. We should collect water in a bucket to take a bath instead of bathing under a shower. 4. Used water can be further used for watering the plants.

Water turns into Vapour when heated and becomes Ice when refrigerated. 1. Heat of sun is enough for ponds and lakes and other sources of water to make enough vapours. Which go into the air. 2. When this vapour reaches to the high level of sky it cool down and turn into water droplets. These droplets form clouds. 3. Inside the clouds the water droplets join together, become heavier and fall back to earth in form of rain. 4. This rain again fills rivers ponds, and lakes. 5. This process of water turning to water vapours and then back to water is called water cycle.

Chapter 12 1. The earth is a home to all the plants, animals, and human beings.
12

2. It is interesting to note that life exists on the planet earth only. 3. The earth is about 150 million km away from the sun. 4. The shape of the earth is round like a ball. Movement of the earth The two important movements of the earth are: Rotation: 1. When earth spins on its axis from west to east, it is called rotation. 2. Earth takes 24 hours to complete one rotation. 3. Rotation of the earth causes day and night. Revolution: 1. The earth moves around the sun, this movement is known as revolution of the earth. 2. Earth takes 365 days and 6 hours to complete one revolution. 3. Revolution of the earth makes a year. 4. Revolution of the earth cause changes in seasons.

Chapter 10 1. Air moving slowly is breeze. 2. When air blows fast it is called wind. 3. Sometimes air blows very fast and furiously, it is storm
13

We cannot see air but can feel it Air occupies Space The air has the following characteristics: Take a flat balloon. Blow air into it. It becomes bigger. Air from the mouth occupies the space in the balloon. So it grows bigger in size.

Air has weight With the help of teacher or parents weigh a football which is not inflated? Fill air into it and weigh it again. You will find that football when filled with air becomes heavier

Air Exerts Pressure Take a glass tumbler and fill it completely with water up to the brim. Now place a thin smooth piece of cardboard at the mouth of the tumbler. Hold the cardboard with one hand and turn the tumbler upside down quickly. After few minutes, remove your hand away from the cardboard. You will see that the cardboard does not fall down because air from below exerts pressure that supports the cardboard in position

Air Has Water Vapour The water in the pond changes into water vapour due to heat of sun. This happens because the sun is hot. The water goes into the air in the form of water vapour.
14

Uses of Air 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Human beings need air to breathe. Air is filled into the tyres of the vehicles. Air helps windmills to rotate. Air is necessary for burning. Plants need air to breathe and to make food. Without air plants can not make their food.

air may contain Dust 1. Dust is made up of small particles of soil found on floors, roads, streets, playgrounds and in the air. 2. For exampleWhen we sweep or when vehicles move on the road, the dust on the ground blows into the air. 3. Dust makes the air impure. 4. Smoke Many things produce smoke when they burn. 5. For exampleWood, coal, give off smoke when they burn. 6. Smoke from the factories, fire, and vehicles like scooters, cars, buses and trucks mixes with the air and makes the air impure. Germs 1. Germs make the air impure. 2. Germs are small living things that can make us unwell. 3. Germs spread through air. For example Dirty place like garbage dumps collect a lot of germs that get blown into the air and spread all
