Drilling Technology (ENM210) Coursework for FT (Feb-14) Well Overview (Fizzy-3): UTM Surface Co-ordinates (Slot Centre): UTM

Target Co-ordinates (Top Reservoir): Primary Target TVD (wrt RKB): Bottom of Reservoir TVD (wrt RKB): 3,842,205.00N 3,843,525.00N 8,000 ft 8,350 ft 509,874.00E 509,346.00E

Proposed well is one of a six well-slot land drilling site, scheduled as a gas producer with an anticipated 3-1/2 completion. The well will be completed to allow a production test to be carried out to determine if the reservoir is commercial. If successful the well will be suspended pending installation of production facilities. Two development wells have already been drilled to the target. Slot centres are 2 metres apart. For future well placement reasons it is required that this Fizzy-3 development well maintains verticality and to kick off at some point below 3,500 ft (TVD). However there is likely to be minimal separation between this planned well and the earlier (neighbouring) wells until 2000 feet (TVD) where the planned Fizzy-3s trajectory moves quickly away in the opposite direction. After this point well collision is not considered a significant risk. The target reservoir is a fractured limestone between 8,000 & 8,350 feet (TVD). An 8-1/2 hole is to be drilled through the reservoir. It is planned that this section and will be logged at TD. A velocity survey (seismic) will be shot in order to better define the reservoir before the section is completed for production. The attached worksheet indicates the following: a) Predicted pore pressure with depth b) Predicted formation fracture gradient c) A Notes column providing some basic information concerning the formations to be drilled

Coursework Questions: a) Design an appropriate directional plan for the well, illustrating your solution with sketches of section and plan views along with a summary table detailing critical points, for example kick-off point, end of build, target top and TD. b) Design a suitable casing scheme for this well briefly describing your thought process for each stage of your proposal. Provide a set of design calculations for the Intermediate casing only. c) Design an appropriate well-bore survey programme for this well, briefly describing your thought process for each stage of your proposal d) Concerning the drill string & BHA: i) Design an appropriate Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) with which to kick off the well in the hole below 13-3/8 casing ii) In previous wells there have been sticking problems around 5,500 ft (TV) so what size, type and grade of Drill Pipe would you use, and give an indication of the amount of overpull that the driller can exert on the string if the string becomes stuck at that depth. Be careful: Do not use proprietary software all the other sections Fully read and take in all the information you have been given before starting! Be sure that work in one section is compatible with your work with
