I congratulate you for your prompt distancing from the unsavory and
outright stupid remarks of Pravin Togadia, Giriraj Singh, Shiv Sena leader
Ramdas Kadam and others. I have also been appreciative of your clear non-
approval of such opportunistic bigots who time and again try to hijack your
plank of development, good governance and inclusiveness towards
polarization on the basis of religion and caste. It was refreshing, to listen to
your speeches and interviews during your election campaign, where you
have relentlessly attacked communal pol itics and casteism. It is important
that the true spirit of Hinduism which is of a compassionate and inclusive
development must be brought to the fore and elements like Togadia should
be marginalized and condemned publicly. It's these elements who have
been conspiring towards the sematization of our kaleidoscopic and diverse
Hindu culture and thus are the greatest threat to Sanatan Dharma. I have
always believed in these tenets of 'Sanatan Dharma' and have stood by
them at all times- that is why I was a severe critic of the Gujrat riots in
2002. But I have noticed a sh ift in the BJP's and your own ideology- be it the

. demolition of illegal temples and mosques in Gujrat, for which you drew a
vociferous flak from sectarian organizations like VHP or your steering of the
political debate towards development arid good governance.
Parochial fundamentalists like these are present in all religious
communities. Such views should be attacked from inside the community for
the protection of. our inclusive social fabric arid composite culture.
I also congratulate you for your crusade <igainst the 'pink revolution' and
alcoholism. But I feel that the debate . of pink revolution .should not be
limited only to cows. lnfact we should all join hands to attack the culture of
anthropocentric greed, which is responsible for environmental

extinction of several species and emergence of violent societies. Similarly
alcoholism is responsible for exploitation of the poor, degradation of
values, rape and domestic violence . against women, road accidents and
other crimes in our Even Gandhiji had declared that if he were to
become the dictator of India even. for a day, the first thing he would do is
ban all alcohol shops and cow slaughter. Unfortunately your views on these
issues are being twisted by the so called progressives and the vested
interests by giving it a communal colour.
I hope you will continue to pro-actively against these social evils
that plague our society.
Wishing you good luck in the elections
Warm Regards
