ISTRUZIONI DI SICUREZZA E MANUALE INSTALLAZIONE DELLE RESISTENZE ELETTRICHE CORAZZATE PER SCALDACQUA AD ACCUMULO RE.CO. SERIE RT ED RF.
PURPOSE The purpose of this document is to define the checks to be implemented for: Entry into operation/ Running / Maintenance of the sheathed heating elements (RT AND RF TYPE) for water heaters in order to guarantee correct functional use and durability in the system (STORAGE WATER HEATER). Sheathed heating elements are divided into two big families: Sheathed heating elements for water heaters with flanges (RF model)/ Sheathed heating elements for water heaters with threaded cap (RT model). This element is produced at the RECO plant in Frossasco (Italy) under the Reco brand. RF heating elements with flanges are assembled and soldered onto a brass flange with an outer diameter of 48 mm. This type is envisaged for boilers with another flange connection and relative gasket for the hydraulic seal. The RF series is defined for appliances with insulation class I. The RT heating elements with cap are assembled and soldered onto a brass cap with a diameter of 1 gas uni 338. This type is envisaged for boilers with a flange connection on the boiler and relative gasket for the hydraulic seal. The RT series is defined for appliances with insulation class I. DESCRIPTION AND USES The RT and RF series sheathed heating elements are designed and custom built on the basis of project data and the specific needs of the user/customer. They are conceived for use in hot water boilers with temperatures up to 100C and pressure of 6 bar, at static and dynamic regimes, directly in contact with the fluid to be heated. The heaters are of the shell and tube type, made up of sheathed electric elements (Ohm resistors) specifically designed to produce electric power with a thermal exchange surface and a geometric configuration suited to the transferral of heat according to the requirements of the system in balanced thermal-dynamic conditions. FOREWORD The RF series (with flange) and RT series (with cap) heating elements must be already positioned correctly and interfaced with the system (Boiler) mechanically and electrically, in accordance with the standards in force in the country of installation. The first RF series must be positioned in the boiler using the appropriate coupling flange and sealing gasket. The second RT series must be coupled to the boiler using the threaded attachment of the heating element, with the relative gasket and a suitable spanner or key to tighten the closure. In its vertical position (80% of cases) inside the boiler, the user must make sure that the level of the liquid is higher than the active part of the heater (hot part), to prevent the heating element from running dry. The heating elements must be fitted in containers or wrappings which ensure the formation of natural convective movement, preventing the creation of areas in which the temperature exceeds the admissible values (e.g.: not inside small wrappings).A gasket suited to providing a hydraulic seal is envisaged, chosen on the basis of the heater operating temperature and the characteristics of the fluid. The surface of the elements that are in contact with the fluid must be checked to make sure that it is clean and free from foreign bodies that might influence the efficiency of the thermal exchange. Fit the threaded cap onto the sleeve, then screw on and tighten with a suitable spanner. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION The RT and RF heating element connection terminals have female Fastons made of stainless steel, measuring 1 mm thick and 6.3 wide, with an electric contact protective header made of thermoplastic material to insulate the terminals. This type of Faston connection is used on the safety thermostat on the sheathed electric element. The user must check that the electric voltage corresponds to the voltage values embossed on the element, then set the temperature value of the thermostat. The heater has been designed by Re.Co. so that it retains its mechanical integrity at temperatures which do not exceed 99C in the heated fluid. The user must ensure (using a suitable Ohm-metre) that the insulation value between live and earth at 500V is higher than 2 Mohm. The user must ensure that the section, the material and the power cable insulation are compatible with the current capacity. The minimum useful section of the cable is 2mm.The earth connection must be made on an M4 screw positioned on the boiler. The power supply must be connected directly to the thermostat on L and N. THERMAL SAFETY AND USE With both the RT and RF model it is possible to fit at least one thermal protection (safety thermostat and/or post regulation) for cutting off the electricity supply to the heater if the fluid in the system overheats due to a fault. The position of the thermostatic probe is chosen in relation to the heaters geometry. The system in which the heaters are used may contain other devices for supplying electricity and controlling the process, depending on the users - clients needs, as long as it is certified in compliance with standards. The heaters must be used only in conformity to the operating characteristics specified by RE.CO. and referred to in the use and maintenance manual of the sheathed heating elements. The user is responsible for respecting the application of all the correct operating instructions defined by the accident prevention and systems standards referring to the use of the heater in the system. The user is responsible for checking that the maximum operating pressure of the system and the maximum temperature are consistent with the operating parameters. The user is responsible for ensuring that the environmental working conditions are compatible with the method of protection indicated and that the electric connection interfaces are suitable for connection to the electricity main. THE HEATERS CANNOT BE USED: In environments characterised by operating conditions that are not consistent with the method of protection and functionality guaranteed by RE.CO. If any of their parts or requirements have been modified or altered without the declared and express authorisation of RE.CO. STORAGE AND ASSEMBLY The elements must always be stored in closed, protected places, where there is no environmental humidity, if possible. Assembly in the boiler must always be carried out by an expert, using appropriate equipment. A visual inspection of the assembly and the integrity of the electrical parts must always be carried out in advance. MAINTENANCE check on element: Switch off the electricity supply on the electric panel and pull out the power cables. Measure the Ohm value while cold, using a class 0.5 Ohm-metre, after making sure that it is calibrated (Ohm +10% -5%). Check on insulation when cold (2 Megaohm min.) check on connections: Check that all the connectors and screws are tightened. Also check that the power cables and their insulation are in perfect condition, replacing them if necessary. check on sheath: Regularly carry out a visual inspection of the outer condition of the sheathing of the heaters, promptly removing any deposits that might have accumulated during the standard operation of the boiler. Do not use abrasive tools to remove deposits, preferring jets of steam, followed by drying with compressed air. DECLARATION RE.CO. declares, under its sole responsibility, that the sheathed heating elements (RT and RF series) designed and built as described, are suitable for civil uses and comply with the applicable safety standards. Being electrically made up of Ohm charges, they must be considered compliant with EEC Directive 2004/108/CE concerning the electromagnetic compatibility of the products and therefore susceptible to application of the CE mark.
