P%RPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to describe the method for Installation, Termination and Testing of electrical cables.

SCOPE This procedure shall be applicable for the installation, termination and testing of LV/HV electrical cables other than single core cables / wires used for building electrification purpose.

Responsibility The responsibilit* for carr*ing out this 1ethod 0tatement shall be that of the &iscipline .ngineer/ 8oremen, unless otherwise specificall* mentioned in this procedure. The !ualit* .ngineer/ &iscipline .ngineer/ 8oremen shall be responsible for inspection ' testing. In case of conflicting re9uirements with the manufacturer:s instructions for installation and testing of cables, the manufacturer:s installation and testing re9uirements shall pre;ail in addition to the non3conflicting re9uirements of this procedure. Preparation (able route shall be ;erified and confirmed from the cable / power la* out drawing and cable schedules as applicable. The details of the cable t*pe, si<e and length to be installed shall be determined from the cable schedule and / or applicable drawing=s>. Handling of Cables ?hen cables are reeled out of cable drums during la*ing, the drums shall be properl* supported on 2ac@s in such a wa* that the cable lea;es the drum from the top portion of the drum to ensure that the cable is not dragged along the floor. (ables of outside diameter of A mm and abo;e shall be laid using cable rollers. The rollers shall be located at regular inter;als and at bends to pre;ent dragging of cables along the ground. ?hen cable drums are shifted b* rolling, the rolling direction shall be as indicated on the drums. Laying of Cables (able tra*s / supports shall be chec@ed for proper installation / mounting as specified in the applicable drawing=s> and chec@s listed in 8orm /o. 1 ' . !($8orm3 002301/ 4.V. 0 shall be carried out. The result of applicable chec@s shall be recorded.

?hen single core cables are laid for phase circuits, it shall be ensured that the cables are laid in trefoil formation. (ables running abo;e ground shall be pro;ided with ade9uate clamps / cable ties as indicated in the applicable drawings. ?hen single core cables are clamped it shall be ensured that the clamp / ties are of non3magnetic material. ?hile la*ing cables, if bends are encountered a minimum bending radii of A times the outside diameter of the cable shall be maintained. (ables shall be numbered / identified at both ends and at regular inter;als as per drawing / specification. (able entries to building / built3up trenches shall be sealed to a;oid entr* of rodents, dust and other foreign matters. Cable Termination #rior to termination of the cable, continuit*, insulation resistance and HV tests as applicable, shall be carried out. The results of the tests shall be recorded in the form /o. 1 ' . !($8orm3 002301/ 4.V. 0. #rior to end termination, cable glands shall be pro;ided on the cables at the entr* points of e9uipment / switch gear being connected as specified. The glands pro;ided shall be of the correct si<e and t*pe as specified. #rior to termination of the cable, the e9uipment terminals where the cable is terminated shall be chec@ed for freedom from damages and coatings which will act as insulators. .Cperienced personnel shall be used for carr*ing out termination of LV cables. "ll HV cable terminations shall be carried out b* 9ualified cable 6ointers. 4ecords of training for HV cable 6ointers shall be maintained. The cable end termination shall normall* be of the crimped t*pe. #roper dies and tools shall be used for crimping. ?here other t*pes of terminations are emplo*ed, recommendation of manufacturer / specification shall be adhered to.

It shall be ensured that the armour of the cable is rigidl* clamped inside the gland and that the electrical continuit* is established between the armour of the cable and the earthing s*stem through the gland bod*. 8or single core cables, gland plates shall be of non3magnetic material and the armour shall be earthed onl* at one end of the cable.
