Inez, After careful review of Kyle Houstons evaluation from his team members, I would not feel comfortable placing Kyle in a leadership role in Dallas at this time. Kyle is a hard worker, but according to Kyles evaluation, his team members rated him a 2.4 on a 3-point scale, covering categories such as contribution, listening and facilitating group problem solving. Although Kyles mean score is relatively high, his scores in leadership categories ranked the lowest among the various sections. In the Contribution category Kyle received a 2.83 on a scale of 0 to 3. This represents Kyles ability to offer ideas, as well as regularly attend meetings and meet deadlines. I have observed Kyle state ideas and give input at most meetings. He has the building of a potential leader and understands that it is important to put the company first, a valuable characteristic of a team leader. In the Listening category Kyle scored a 1.96, representing Kyles ineffective listening skills. Since these evaluations are completed by 15 other team members, it was a pattern among those members to feel as if Kyle doesnt let other members talk, forces his own ideas, and is not open minded for the benefit of the team. I have observed that Kyle lacks an open mind and listening skills while working with team members. In the Facilitating Group Problem Solving category Kyle scored a 2.18 on a scale of 0-3. This area is not Kyles strongest attribute and suggests that Kyle needs improvement with staying on topic, selecting criteria for the evaluation of suggested ideas, encouragement of alternative solutions and choosing the best solution. In this section, some team members gave Kyle a 0, representing poor evaluation of group problem solving. Once again I feel as if this category is a direct reflection of the characteristics of a leader and it is important that this position is filled with someone who can collaborate with team members and reach a final decision with the best solution. Kyle has improved dramatically in the six months he has been here, and I know that with a little more time and experience he will be ready and equipped with the skills for the next open position. I think it would be beneficial for Kyle to shadow a current team leader as well as receive this feedback in order to see the importance of listening and group problem solving. We can also recommend various classes and give him the chance to direct a small project in order to evaluate the change in Kyles leadership abilities. Kyle is a quick learner and I am sure he will advance in these areas in no time. Thank you again for trusting my input, and please know that I am always willing to help you as well as improve the skills of our current members. Madison Harpst, Senior Team Leader
