A Note from the Director

The musical, Oliver!, was adapted by Lionel Bart from the 1883 Charles Dickens novel, OLIVER TWIST, and has engaged audiences for years. It first opened at the West End Theater in London in 1960 and ran for 2,618 performances. It opened on Broadway in 1963, with Davy Jones from the Monkees fame, playing Dodger. The movie version was released in 1968 and won for Best Picture at the 41st Academy Awards and the 26th Golden Globes. In a 2009 revival, Rowan Atkins (aka Mr. Bean) played Fagin. One of the biggest and most memorable productions was the 1994 London Palladium revival, where so many children showed up to audition, they had to have two casts. I am proud that GOOD COMPANY THEATER shared the same dilemma that the 1994 production did - so many children auditioned. At first, we were a bit overwhelmed, but after reviewing the situation, we realized we could accommodate everyone by having two casts. Everyone has been wonderful. I feel so lucky to be part of this remarkable theater group and I love watching it grow. We were so lucky to have a top-notch team in Cortney Turner, as our patient Assistant Director, Coreen Thompson, our lovely Choreographer, Jen Moreau (and Bryan!) as our savvy Technical Director, Ruthie Babich as our Producer extraordinaire, and newcomer, Kevin Barlowski, as our magnificent Music Director. Everything from tickets to the costumes went off without a hitch and I appreciate everyones hard work. I want the cast to know Id do anything for them and spending these past few months with everyone has made me realize I have a fine life. If anyone ever asks me, Where is Love? I will confidently say, Youll find it at Good Company Theater.

Congratulations to the entire cast of Oliver With special wishes to our VPS alumni! Valley Pre-School
