Ilanka Cultural Center Museum Technician-Temporary


Team: Cultural Center Reports to: Cultural Center Director FLSA Status: Non Exempt from Overtime Schedule: 40 hrs per wk, less than 6 m Last Revised: Oct, 2012

The Ilanka Cultural Center Museum Technician provides exhibit support, maintains and cashiers the gift shop. This position performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures, and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments. Responsibilities/Duties: Open and close gift shop Cashier for gift shop Update displays Track Inventory using Point of Sale system Design and create labels for various exhibits for the museum under the direction of the Cultural Center Director. Keep track of and send renewals to Cultural Center Members Answer telephones, answer questions, take messages, etc. Other duties as assigned.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Good organizational skills. Good design and written English skills. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft office Word and Excel. Ability to follow instructions, and exercise independent judgment. Knowledge of museum and archival systems. Excellent customer service skills. Experience Requirement: Successful applicant should have training in museum systems, and one year customer service experience. Education Requirements: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Performance standard Regularly sit for long periods of time to complete tasks. Regularly bend, crouch, stand, move about to complete work. Typically lifts 10 lbs to coordinate work. Regularly manipulate electronic data to gather, input and otherwise coordinate work. Typically uses office machines such as multi-line phones, faxes, scanners or otherwise communicates, corresponds and completes these tasks associated with office machines.

Environmental Factors Majority of work will be completed in an office within a museum, exposure to copiers, office equipment, artifacts and prehistoric items.

Voice of Our Elders Deliverables


Plan, Develop, install and monitor the Voices of our Elders exhibit. Meet initially with the cultural center director and executive director weekly for the first three weeks, and then bi-weekly until project is finished. Projected finish of project is March 25th, 2012. Organize and coordinate the digital storytelling workshops. Work with the cultural center director and executive director to bring consultant in to for training for staff and Tribal Council. Work with Jackie Ladd to gain skills at completing digital stories-2 three hour sessions. Gain permission from elders to use already prepared digital storytelling. Gain permission from elders to create new digital stories, coordinate these visits and compile the stories. Edit into a flowing, informative documented story. Work with NVEs IT to install the display site and purchase computers and equipment to establish a kiosk to display the digital stories.
