New Faces at MIS The new staff have settled into life at MIS very professionally and calmly this term. The children seem happy and have got to know them already and this is good to see. I am confident that (as previously mentioned) our aim to keep improving the general standards to teaching staff here at MIS is being achieved. I do understand that too much staff turnovers is disturbing and worrying to parents. To management at MIS too. Lets hope that this academic year proves to have more consistency and is our most settled year to date.

Japanese Unit Tests have started. From this term we are using standard Japanese Curriculum Tests as follows: (In English!) K3 Maths G1 Maths G2 Maths G3 Maths, Science and Social Studies G4 Maths, Science and Social Studies G5 Maths and Science G6 Maths and Science These are excellent resources to ensure that we are teaching what we should be teaching and to show parents that the children are understanding what we teach. Every month we will give the children a test and we will send this home to parents. We will record the results and use these to help inform our assessments and our Report Writing each year. In regards to Reports that come home each year. We have listened to parents concerns and decided to re-evaluate our grade system on Reports to make it easier for parents to understand as well as be more consistent and more linked to ongoing assessment at the schoolsuch as our Japanese Curriculum Unit Tests. Thank you

Spelling Bee Competition Well done to Rintaro Kinui in Grade 5. Last term, during the holidays, he represented MIS at the annual Japanese Spelling Bee competition in Tokyo. We were very proud of his achievements and he represented the school very ably. Well done Rintaro.

Can I remind parents to keep buying Raffle Tickets?! If you need more, your childs teacher can provide them. Remember to KEEP the left hand side of the Raffle Ticket and not bring that part back to school. We only need to receive the right hand sideas well as money! At present we are beginning to receive some exciting prizes at the school including like last year an iPad and various camp holiday vouchers. More are arriving daily and I will send home a detailed list of prizes in due course. A scanned Bazaar Ticket is shown on the front side of this Nanohana. A Thank you from the Head Just a quick thank you to the parents who have contacted me to wish me well in my next endeavor as a Head of School in Malaysia. It has been very touching and moving to receive those good wishes and I would like to thank parents for making the effort. As I have stated before, please understand that I will do my very best this term and am confident a suitably qualified Head will be found to replace me in August.

After School Care Could I please remind parents about where the new ASC room is? It is for this Academic Year to be found at the back of the Kindergarten 1 class in the Kindergarten building. It is not in the spare Grade 6 class anymore as we do not have a spare Grade 6 classroom now. Thank you. Emergency Food/Earthquake The school has bought 400 packs of emergency food. Please see the photo on the left. They come from Ishii Food Corporation. This food can be used in case of an emergency at the school such as an earthquake. In regards to emergency planning, please be aware that we had a very successful Fire Drill Practice yesterday and we will be holding an Earthquake and Tsunami Drill Practice next week. Yesterdays drill went very well.
