Lesson Summary: The purpose of this lesson is to get the children familiar with using technology, computers, and apps. Each child with the help of the teacher will get onto the ABCya website and free draw a picture incorporating the different coloring tools available (markers, paint, spray paint, etc). Estimated Duration: During free play, there will be a small group of children taking turns on the computers to complete their

drawings. 30 minutes for the morning and 30 minutes for the afternoon for three days. Commentary: Well first do some free drawing/ free painting exercises with different materials. There will be painting on foil, drawing on cardboard boxes, and painting with cotton balls. This will introduce the children to different ways we can draw and paint with different materials. To engage the students I would ask them what else we could paint with? And then bring up the idea about using the computer to draw and paint.

Instructional Procedures: Day 1: The first 30 minutes in the morning session will consist of half of the children painting on foil while the other half of the children are introduced to ABCya. Two teachers will be with the two groups consisting of a total of 8 children. The children on the ABCya web app will be playing around with different the drawing tools. Such as navigating and drawing with the markers, paint brushes, lines, spray paint, and letters. The teacher will be with them scaffolding and using open ended questions to assist them such as How do you think it would look to draw with the marker tool? What do you think the spray paint tool will look like? What tool do you like the best? What do you think you can draw by using this app? The second 30 minutes in the afternoon session will be switched, the children that were on the computers will be painting on foil and the children that were painting will be on the computer. The same activities will be presented as previously stated above. Day 2: The first 30 minutes in the morning session will have children exploring with drawing materials on cardboard boxes and the other half will be on the ABCya web application exploring with different colors on the website. Once again there will be two teachers with each group and scaffolding and asking open ended questions as the children explore with ABCya. The second 30 minutes in the afternoon will reverse the previous groups and go through the same motions as the morning session.

Day 3: The first 30 minutes in the morning will have the children divided into two groups, one group will be painting with cotton balls and the other half will be on the computer on the ABCya web application drawing and finalizing their free hand drawing. The second 30 minutes in the afternoon will reverse the groups. Pre-Assessment: We would have a discussion at circle time about who uses computers at home, who has used a computer

before, and etc and create a graph. We will also talk about and compare and contrast the things we can draw with and talk about if you could draw on the computer. This should give me enough information about where the children are with their skills on the computer. Scoring Guidelines: Judgement and a class made graph would be used to determine where the children are. Post-Assessment: Post assessment would consist of printing out the final project from ABCya when the children are finished.I would also keep a checklist to see if each child is grasping the standards. Documentation would also be going on by taking pictures of the children engaged in the art projects and on the computer and will be displayed in the classroom as well. Scoring Guidelines: Since this is Pre-K there really wont be a grade or a score, I would just note the checklist. I would hang the work up in the classroom done by each child. Differentiated Instructional Support Describe how instruction can be differentiated (changed or altered) to meet the needs of gifted or accelerated students: Giving them a ipad to try it first and more personal attention. Discuss additional activities you could do to meet the needs of students who might be struggling with the material: Going over the activity with them one on one and introducing them to computers and keyboards beforehand.

Extension http://www.nickjr.com/games/nick-jr-free-draw.jhtml Nick Jrs free draw is just like ABCya except its hosted on NickJr.com with other games that the children can familiarize themselves with. This can be used at home to practice what was experienced in the classroom.

Homework Options and Home Connections Parent involvement- having the children spend more time with their child and the computer. Suggesting software such as Ispy and the microsoft paint program and other programs like paint that can get the child familiar on drawing with computers.
