ANNUAL REPORT

A Letter from the Founder

important roles in the organization. In August 2013, Emily Wanderer joined the EverGift team as our Program Coordinator. In September 2013, Kevin McPherson was brought on as our Chief Financial Advisor. Jonathan Wunderlich joined our board in November, as our Executive Development Advisor. These three key additions to our team have been the driving force of our momentous growth in 2013. As well, 2013 brought together a wider family of committed individuals, organizations, and corporations, each of which are the building blocks for our success. Dear EverGift Family, Evergift began 4 years ago as a vision to fill a void; it seemed that philanthropic giving could evolve to something even better, something permanent. Matt and I started EverGift four years ago with the shared vision of supporting poverty alleviation efforts through the efficient provision of loan capital to social enterprise organizations both internationally and at home. Today, Evergift is proud to see that vision becoming a reality as our organization grows and improves the lives of communities across the globe. We focus in three core tenets: 1) invest in people that can drive change in their own communities 2) empower women as key agents of change 3) require that each project hold strong promise for financial sustainability. 2013 in review Back in 2009, EverGift began by investing in microfinance organizations across the globe. By 2013, the organization had grown to include investments in social enterprises that tackle social problems with market-based solutions. This new strategy sparked a relaunch of our platform, website, social media strategy and attracted top tier talent to fill Key partnerships & projects in 2013 Hand in Hand India has been in operation since 1988 in Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu, India, expanding poverty reduction programs in rural areas. Programs aim to build self-reliance among disadvantaged groups through sustained income generation. TRIUM and EverGift teamed up with Hand in Hand to aid in sustainable program expansion. Brick by Brick Construction in Uganda is part of a growing phenomenon of social businesses started by non-profits which see a market solution to poverty. Brick By Brick Construction trains and employs Ugandans, providing them a living wage and other benefits. They are then hired by government international aid initiatives to build schools with their sustainable, low-carbon-footprint bricks. The Business of Dreaming The DREAM Project in the Dominican Republic provides quality education for 4,000+ children focusing on early childhood education and high quality basic education. The DREAM Project facilitates the Partners of the Americas program, A Ganar (Lets Win), to give youth workforce development and life skills training,

encouraging upward mobility, living wages and education. The DREAM Projects Young Stars program provides education for youth ages 2-18 and the A Ganar program covers ages 16-24, though the most challenging barrier is still the lack of stable employment. EverGift is teaming up with The DREAM Project to provide access to loan capital for entrepreneurs that otherwise would not be a loan candidate due to age or lack of collateral.

childcare providers, working responsibly, honestly, and with expertise to help your child be more intelligent through fun and creativity; so that the whole family can enjoy the quality of our childcare services. This is an opportunity to complete the lifecycle that The DREAM Project and A Ganar have started. An impressive 70 percent of A Ganar students are employed or re-enrolled in school even years after the programwe hope that together we can hit 100 percent. Three goals looking forward Over the next three years we aim to 1) attract new supporters; 2) build our team with diverse talent; and 3) strengthen and mature new and existing partnerships. The latter is perfectly exemplified by our new partnership with The DREAM Project. This story is one of many; dreams are being built by the vigorous work of individuals in many corners of the world. Thank you for being a part of sustainable solutions to poverty. We are excited to continue this journey with you. May 2014 bring greatness. Sincerely,

In partnership with these two organizations, EverGift is working to develop the first organized nanny service in the Dominican Republic. There is a unique opportunity for this type of service because of strong direct foreign investment in resorts, hotels, and vacation home communities. There is no established and accredited nanny service to meet the needs of this growing international community. With financial support from our partners at TRIUM Fund, technical business support from EverGift, and employee development from A Ganar and The DREAM Project, the nanny care service will provide gainful employment for 13+ women previously unemployed. These women will be empowered by a democratic ownership structure in which they will have rights and voting power over benefits such as health care. This partnership is unprecedented for all organizations involvedwe are excited to see the nanny service building momentum each day toward their mission: To be easy-access

WHAT WE DO
EverGift identifies and vets social enterprises that fit the ethos of our sponsors corporations, foundations and individuals. EverGift, acting as a conduit, transforms charitable funds into low-cost loans, which are then distributed to the elected social enterprise. The social enterprise works toward financial sustainability and repays the loan to EverGift. EverGift then re-applies the donated funds to the next suitable social enterprise creating a charitable donation that truly does keep on giving: an EverGift.

WHY WE DO IT
Social enterprises are important to EverGift because they empower people to solve social problems in their communities without dependence on aid. Social enterprises can help issues such as market access, value chains, financial services, and medical services. Revenue for products and services allow social enterprises to be self-sustaining; therefore, loans given to social enterprises can be invested again and againscaling their positive effects.

PROFIT BUILDS LIVELIHOOD

Social

enterprise

is

the

philanthropic method that compliments our global marketplace. Social enterprise is the application of business tactics to a social or nonprofit mission. Similarly, microfinance was created with the same ideals, to grant financial inclusion to people who had been left out of the system and were suffering as a result. Microfinance, as a social enterprise, empowers customers to make choices about their needs and entrepreneurs to take upward mobility into their own hands.

$1.20 LOAN BUILDS A FUTURE

Harriet needed only $1.20 to start her now thriving business. Harriet lives in a small rural community near Lake Victoria in Uganda. Like many women, she is the sole ! breadwinner for her family. She first works to meet the basic needs of her family, food and shelter, then must also shell out frequently for healthcare costsshe remembers a time, not too long ago when there was little money left over for her childrens school fees; arguably, the most important agent for upward mobility. Luckily, Harriet was able to access a micro loan. She bought 3 chicks for $.40USD, after 6 weeks she sold them for a 500% profit. When EverGift visited Harriet, she had grown her business and had 300 chicks.
